I will be doing alot of road course/autocross this summer with my car. Are tranny coolers like lids in that a tranny cooler is a tranny cooler is a tranny cooler, or are their preferences?

The only difference in tranny coolers is the same as the difference in radiators. Larger, more surface area means better cooling. Although, I'd probably go with a trusted name rather than an ebay special. I just installed one on my Blazer from B&M, pretty simple.

The transmission cooler of choice on this board seems to be the B&M 24K cooler. You may want to consider a deeper trans pan also.
