Hi,
About 1 week ago I noticed that my 2001 Z28 started to making a grinding noise whenever I backed out of my driveway. It sounds like the noise you would get if you tossed a beer cap into a running garbage disposal. I've tested it in parking lot, and noise is only really prevalent in reverse with the wheel turned all of the way counter-clockwise (to the left). It's barely audible in drive and turning left. I don't hear it at all turning right.
Note: 1 month ago I had the shocks and struts replaced. The shop had a hard time with the driver side front strut. They had to tear out the left front mount and replace it. They also replaced the front sway bar end links (not sure what those are).
The noise sounds like it's coming from the front left tire when I'm driving the car. Someone told me it's a ball joint. Most of the internet research has pointed to wheel bearings. My question, which one is more likely, how hard are they to fix, and if they're beyond my limited knowledge/ability, how much am I looking to spend to replace? Also, is there any chance the shop caused this when they replaced the strut and mount?
Thanks.
