I noticed that summit sells the kit with eveything needed to convert the ls1 to the ls6 for $1800. That should be 405hp at the fly wheel. I was wondering if you guys would recommend this, or going with a custom head/cam swap. I dont want something crazy (well i do but like the m.p.g.). So any help would be appreciated. :shots:

Mine is a 02. GM installed the ls6 intake on the 01-02 f-bods. So the price is without that intake. Yours being a 2000 will require it at about $400 more unless u go with an aftermarket......but most aftermarket intakes are designed or based off the LS6. :naughtywa Oh ya we still need some suggestions!!

I would have thought this would be a popular swap.

But then again, I considered it myself until I realized I want more than the LS6 cam. I think the change is small enough most just jump right over it.

Is the Ls6 conversion route worth it?

im not sure if it is or not, it is however extremely convienient (coming with all the parts for the conversion and is priced very well) i feel like if i get it its gonna put me right below the 400 hp vette (bering the same cam and head) and thats not where i wanna be. i thnk im gonna save a little more money and get a little better flowing patriots or afrs, and get a slightly bigger cam, and buy the ls6 manifold. I hate vettes!!! i wanna be around 430, still wont hang with the zo6 though i will with some spray though

it would make for a hell of a sleeper though!! would sound pretty damn close to stock with some punch!!!

From the people I've talked to, GM high performance stuff is not what it is all cracked up to be. For the same amount of money (maybe a bit more) you could get a good set of heads, a killer cam, maybe a LS6 intake and be looking at more like 420+ to the wheels with a good tune. Instead of the 405 to the flywheel.

For as much trouble as what it is it is not worth it. Go with a cam that you like or one you have heard and a good set of after market heads. Mods in sig and still get 18 mpg just screwing around. If I stay on the highway much better.

I looked into this before and for the money spent you'll gain maybe 40hp to the wheels most stock Z06's dyno around 350-360rwhp. You can get a cam and springs only setup that will take you 380-400 rwhp and be fairly streetable. If you want a sleeper there are plenty of cams that will idle like stock and even better. If I remember corectly I saw a bolt-ons car with a GT2-3 making 370+rwhp and idle better than stock. Good Luck!
