Torque Wrench Question

I'm looking to buy a tourqe wrench for gp use on my car ( 98 Z28) I'm not sure what range and drive size to get for the most versitility, any suggestions?

I like craftsman personally, not the digital but the ones where you twist the handle for proper torque. You can get a 3/8 drive 0-75 ft lbs that is small enough to get in most places and is vestal. With this though you will not be able to torque your lug nuts or anything above 75 ft lbs. They sell a 1/2 drive that goes up to 125 ft lbs I believe (its in my tool box, but to cold to go look). There's also the in lbs wrench to look at. Wait for the sales though, you will save money that way. Sears usually has lots of them. Black Friday I picked one up for 50% off.

Sears only has about 8 different torque wrenches in the store. They have more than 80 available online. Sears actually has a clearance store on ebay.

They have a 1/2" drive with a 20-150 ft/lbs. range. You can get a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter for about $6.

I have an S-K unit after my crafsman broke after a year. It has been very dependable for the past five years.

S-K is very good dad has the 1/2 one use it all the time macs 1/4 inch is pretty good too.

I have been using a Proto lately, but that one is borrowed and they are pricey. I would imagine that you could find others that can do just as well without spending a small fortune. I would definatly make sure you get on that goes up to at least 150 lbs though so you can easily torque on the lug nuts.

I got one from Harbor Frieght for right under $20. It's a 3/8 0-75 wrench. I've never had an issue w/ it and used it on almost every bolt when I rebuilt my 90 Mustang LX (<--I know, bad word). My next one will probably be a little better quality, but it hasn't failed me yet and gets the job done.

I've got a couple of extra torque wrenches and I'll sell you one if you're interested. I have a 3/8" Cobalt, 3/8" Proto and 3/8"Craftsman just PM me and I'll see what we can work out. The Proto's are pretty nice and have a sturdier case and I believe the one I have is a 20 - 100 ft lb. I might even have an extra inch pound torque wrench.
