Got killed by a gt

I was rollen back from Alabama on the highway,doing bout 75.This black,late 90's gt rolled up and pulled even.We dropped em and I got pulled by at least 3 to 4 cars.That's bout all he got,at that point he stopped pulling and I seemed to move in.Didn't last but a few seconds thou,he dropped a quick turn signal and went thru the grass back the other way. I'm thinking I got sprayed,doesn't matter thou,I didn't win.

It's going to happen sooner or later,got no prob with losing.Although I wished he would have stopped so I could have asked a few questions,atleast find out what bet me. I killed a 05 gt the other day in town,no problem. That black stang was fast thou,wasn't stock!

hhmm that couldnt have been a stock GT, i pulled on a 96 cobra with no problem *stock* so i wonder what the stang had done

It's got a pretty strong engine. The '03/'04 Cobra is advertised at 390hp and 390 ft. lbs. torque, but it's common for stock Cobras to do about 360 rwhp or more on a dyno. With just a FIPK and JBA mufflers, my '04 did 428 rwhp and 395 ft. lbs of torque on a Dynojet. I've never run a timed 1/4 mile with it. I'm into open tracking and the suspension is set up for that.

We dropped pretty even,to say I was surprised would be a understatement! I was expecting to watch his headlights fade away but........ It was a gt by the way,as far as I can tell. It was the same body style as the termi's but I'm pretty sure it was a gt.

Yeah, at 75mph you should have been in 3rd. I don't even shift into 4th until about 100mph when racing. 3rd would have made a world of difference. I've made the fatal mistake of underestimating another car and not downshifting...but at least you can admit the kill... :cheers:

Eh, it's an LS1 forum not a Mustang forum. I can see if he went to an SVT forum or something and said that then it might be considered "stirring the pot". But I understand where your comming from, it does get annoying when you come on here to have a civilized chat with "the other side" and certain memebrs are hard set on picking your car apart.

To the OP good death. I raced what I thought was just a riced out Civic nothing car a while back in my father's Camaro SS m6. It turns out the guy had a T63 turbo set up on it. Good thing he couldn't get traction and I drive the Camaro like it's stolen otherwise he would have won, Lol. I always try the lower gear first in a roll race and work my way up even if it takes letting my opponent out ahead of me until I find what gear works best.

In most cases like this the GT is juiced all t'shit, plus any number of other mods. It really is a freak occurrence. You'll get him next time champ.

A friend of mine has a 2002 GT. His only mods are bolt ons and a new transmission. I forgot which kind it is but its also a 5 speed. No cam no nitrous just bolt ons and tranny and he runs low 12s

Exactly, I learned from my WS6 when I owned it and my father's 99 SS that these cars will run better in the lower gears from a roll. I always grab a lower gear and ease out the clutch, if it's too much, I just go up one. It's better to spend the time finding the right gear then to wait out the wrong one in my opinion.

I havent raced with bigger gears yet, most of my races was out of 2nd and a low roll, and I took 2nd till like around 100 and then shifted into 3rd and usually the race is over in 3rd gear at around 120ish
So am I racing wrong or just have a different car or what?

i believe my m6 tops out second an 72 ish 3rd at 95ish and 4th at 125ish so i think you might be cunfused unless you have different gears installed. in 6th gear at 73 i am at 1,600 rpms give or take a little on all those numbers.

You can't be reaching 100 mph in second gear! You must be in third.

My 3rd gear is good to between 103 - 105 mph -- At the 1/4 mile track, I have left it in 3rd gear and hit the limiter right as I passed the line-- My time slips have been between 103- 105 mph.

3.42s in my car as well.

There is a gear ratio/ mph calculator floating around on this forum somewhere.

Click on link-- then in the drop down menu box. Select 98 Fbody M6.

It should fill in your tire/ wheel size/ etc..

Click calculate.

Then go to the right side and scroll down, and the second set of numbers should be filled in, giving you the top speed in each gear (based solely off of gear ratio- not actual. It has my car doing high 200s in 6th, but we all know that it won't do that, but it would if it could, with the gears it has in it.

Now go to the LT1 section, and ask them what gears you have. :)

Then go back to that link, click on those gears, and see what your top speed is in each gear.

yes I do beleive mustangs are good, as basballny said, you can put lots of cookies, lunchmeat, milk, soap, crackers, ice cream, and all kinds of stuff in them. I know this mom down the street from me,... she does it with her mustang all the time. and if you cant put anymore groceries in them you can always park them at the other end ofa shooting range.:uzi:

1994-1997 Camaro/Firebird LT1 "M6" was only offered with a 3.42:1 gear. '93 was the only year to have both a 2.73:1 and 3.23:1 available for the "M6" model (There was no 3.42 ratio available on the '93 F-body)
