View Full Version : LS6 heads and cam on 06 Tahoe
OK, what you all think, i got a nice little deal for LS6 heads with cam and all gaskets.
I know the combustion chamber is originally 60-62cc and the ls6 are 64-65cc. so i will lose on that, but the cam makes up for the diff. flow at .450 for stock is 214 and at .550 with the ls6 is 256....
Should i go or no?
Ok, i did some research, and yes you can however, if you are just doing a pure head swap you will lose power. You will have to either mill the heads down from 64cc to 60.9 or put in the cam...
LS6 heads are usableon all Gen III engine except the 4.8L...Anyone got a set of heads for sale?

why can't you use 243's on a 4.8? i 'm pretty sure you can by the way

The combustion chamber is too big for it. The Bore on a 4.8 is much less then a 5.3 which will cost you issues with head placement...I got a book that explains it all...I will get you the insert that explains it all

I Was Under The Impresion That 4.8l And 5.3l Were The Same Bore And Block Just Different Stroke... I Have Two 5.3l And Both 4.8l/5.3l Stamped On The Back Were The Trans. Hooks Up....

the 4.8/5.3 have the same bore just different stroke...
But you have to remember the cc of the 5.3 heads is 61cc. The LS6 are 65cc...and the LQ9 is 72cc...Why they spread them this far appart is confusin...
You were right about the bore, my mistake. But in order to appreciate the power you have to go with the 01 cam as well...
If i was going to put the LS6 heads on my 5.3 i will probably mill them so they fit the stock compression and pushrods...But try and find a pair for less then 1600$...Thats the hard part...

you can find ls6 heads on tech alot cheaper than that. and why do you HAVE to use an 01 cam to appreciate the power. Most guys i know are using the ls6 heads because they flow so much better than the stock 4.8/5.3 heads. the 706's aren't very good for anything over .525lift where with 243's you can get better results with a bigger cam.

I could go with the 02 that has 0.550 lift, but then is it really worth it. 0.525 will bring a smile to my face. I would love to just see 300hp and 335ftlb at the rear wheel...

you should see that with a cam swap for sure. if you're looking for another 25-30 with your intake and heads you should be around 330 or so i'd say. but i dunno

I did a dyno run to get a base for the cam and intake, and well the numbers are awful...
225hp and 275lbft...With Cam and intake...
Before i was makin 250hp and 300lbft on original engine with stock cam and intake...
On saturday i am swappin out the heads, if i dont make north of 300 on both i am going to throw in the towel...
