Twas the night before halloween..and not a car in sight..but a cobalt and a couger, getting ready to fight..alright j/k.

So i was coming up to a light up behind a Couger when he pulls up next to a yellow cobalt..the cobalt looked really nice, the tip actually went with the car and it didnt look that bad. So the cobalt starts revving at the couger wanting to race....so im thinking "this could be fun". I start revving just a little to let him know im there...even though im behind the couger.

Light changes and the cobalt takes off and I swing around the couger and get up behind the cobalt,,he switches lanes and I blow by him. Now we both have our girls in the car. He starts revving at me at a light that we both turn left on. So we turn left, I pop traction control off and the last thing I saw was headlights lol. It was a pretty fun race..put him in his place :nono: lol

Cobalt, another mistake made by GM

So is this a cobalt SS or just a regular colbalt?

it was just a regular cobalt

Still though...its GM family...

It's a 4 cylinder with a SC putting out 205hp. The car was built to compete with the Civic, not a mustang. The stage 3 cobalt is rated at 260hp on 100 octane and even has a nitrous algorithm rated at a 50 shot. Not too shabby...

yea it replaced the cavy, lol

I hope they bring back a turbo instead of a SC really it's made to compete against all the rice in the world.... not a bad car for that.

10-27-2007, 11:24 PM

That thing needed replacing. It wasn't getting any better looking, all they did was change the rear lights for the last few years. Cobalt was a welcome change, still not a beauty, but change is good!

cobalts are an economy family-friendly car lol. they obviously arent the sexiest things on the road, but they arent butt ugly. way better lookin than the cavy.
and btw, i really doubt the supercharged ss cobalts are running 16's. probably more like 14's. HUUUGE difference. thats like lt1 territory. definitely not a mistake made on a family car.
and im glad its supercharged instead of turbo. they pretty much opened a whole new idea up to the sports car world: stock superchargers. obviously termy's and lightnings started it (maybe sumthin before it, but nothing sporty. like the bonneville ssei's, or some oldsmobiles... idk and idc...) but the cobalts i think are really introducing the idea even more. im tired of hearin all these ricer turbos... its nice to hear a change.

but hey blackhawk, thats a good story lol. sucks that they got caught, but they got off real lucky. the only bad thing is, its gonna make racing a little less desirable with a close call like that, plus cops are gonna be more on the lookout maybe?

ATCharming: How dare you forget the Thunderbird Super Coupe. 3.8 sc'd, rear wheel drive, sport luxary awsomeness. They were a cool car back in the day. 220hp/330ft-lbs.

To the original poster: I was rolling down the highway the other day and a decent looking chick in a blacked out Cobalt started pacing me. I started to chuckle. I hear her downshift, so I did as well. My wastegate dump opened almost exactly as I passed her, I bet it scared the shit out of her. I put a few lengths and lifted =)

whoops... see idk about all the stock supercharged cars, but i think between the cobalt ss and the terminator (altho its a few years old already) are relaly opening up a whole new world on manufacturing cars

Got some news for you that you might not like.. heard a "very possibly true" rumor today that.. the NEW SS Cobalts are going Turbo. Increase in HP though.. I heard in the same rumor that tests showed 14.1 1/4 mile. Not bad at all.

14.1 is not bad for a stock car that is supposed to be a suped up family economy car. turbo would make more power, but i just like the blower whine and that its different

I saw a Tripple charged 350Z...in a magazine onces... crazy stuff... SuperCharger for under 4K RPMs... with a clutch that deactivated it...while the turbo spooled at 4K RPMs all the way up to red line...with some Nitrous just for the hell of it... a 75 shot I belive...

crazy stuff...

my question is why would you want to buy a colbalt thats going to be a 14 sec. car for around $22k base when the new camaro is coming and is going to be priced to compete with the mustang and you can get a new v8 stang for around $25 if you don't get too crazy with the options, hmmm 3 grand more for a v8 and a car that is sexy ass hell and has been mentioned that the either the LS2 or LS3 will be the BASE v8, i think i know my choice if i were buying a new car.

Simple economics. Gas is expensive, people drive to work on a daily basis, V8 doesn't exactly scream fuel economy(yeah I know the whole variable displacement blah blah). Then there's insurance... Much cheaper for a 4 banger than a muscle car. But me, I know which one I'd go for... heck might even do both.

HAHA gas milage is the funny part, the old SS supercharged got 22 mpg city 30 highway, so for my M6 LS1 has averaged 24 to 25mpg per tank and maybe 80 out of the 200 mile on that tank are highway, but yeah insurance blows on it

Insurance would be cheaper for me to have an LS1 car then the car I have....and the mileage is about the same. I only get about 22mpg.

i never got that, does boost kill mileage on 4 cyl. or what? would it do that if i turbo/supercharged my car?

I have no clue the reasoning, but I beat on my car like from the moment i jump in it to the moment i jump out of it.

You gotta figure I'm making over 400 horse, so the power has to come from some amount of gas. I'm using 880cc injectors so they can really drink when they want to....

yeah, but the stock SS supercharged doesn't get great milage for a 4 cyl. and its got 205hp, don't know maybe its got some crazy comp. ratio or something

4tun8
10-31-2007, 06:33 AM
normally stock boosted cars are tuned VERY conservatively from the factory....IE 9:1 AFR's and that WILL consume gas quickly.

When I was just bolt ons with my car and had it tuned for more power I was getting 27ish mpg.

it's all a matter of how hard you have to push your car to get it to move...Power To Weight ratio, Torque and such... us LS1 car owners barely have to give it any gas and the thing will move under normal driving situations... I myself never make it over 1700rpms on a normal drive.... where as a 4Cil in a boosted aplication with it's low compression and tq has to push alot harder to get moving and therefore spends more gas under normal driving... 3000+lbs Evo... with a 2.0L... still needs to get up to 3k rpms or more to get moving in the normal flow of traffic...

at least that's my theory about the whole thing... :coffee:

Thats why my 4.3 Xtreme got such shitty mielage. Sucky ass power to weight ratio.

would explain my 11 to 12 mpg out of my 5.9l dodge, only 245hp and like 4500lbs, damn thing just chugs gas down, not as bad as my dads 8.1L 3/4 chevy though, that thing is thirsty

cause sometimes a 6 speed can actually be a dissadvantage... case and point... the crappy top end of a Subaru STi...6-speed... gears are too close... only made for acceleration...not top end...

Evo has both 5 speed and 6 speed. The MR has a 6, the rest have a 5.....actually by most accounts the 5 speed is better.
