When I was 15 and started looking for cars, a fiero was one of my top 10 choices. That was 10 years ago, I'm wondering, with the way things have changed, is there stuff you can do to a fiero to make it slaughter new cars in a road course? What about style stuff, i mean..their interior is about as sexy as a 3rd gen...can it be swapped with f-body/vette/eclipse...anything better?

ive never liked them, but i have seen some that are pretty cool.
You can swap a small block v8 into it and they run like a bat out of hell.
Theres also a million kits you can buy for them if you want to go crazy... make yourself a ferrariero haha

They were ahead of their time that's for sure.......I've got one now that has a LT1 383 in it......I've built two now with that motor......I hate it though when people put those "Ferrari" kits or "Lambo" kits on them.......that's when they look gay

A few years ago 2 of my friends and I had 4 fieros that we played around with. They were a lot of fun. I wouldn't mind buying another one if I came across a decent deal.

a freind of mine has a 88? (maybe, not sure) with a 355 small block, it ran 12.9** in the 1/4, he just chopped the to a couple of inches and raked the windsheild back (stock windshield tilted back to fit the chop) and it looks BAD ASS, he doesn't have it all back together yet but just sitting in peices in his shop its looking good

my gramps told me that GM's original plan for those was to actually be faster than the vette. The only thing that stopped them from pursuing a stock v8 placement was the fact they kept blowing up when rear-ended. Imagine what could have been.

I agree, the kits for fiero to ferrari/lambo are totally lame and one needs not to waste time and money by ruining a vehicle. It's like wearing a fake rolex.. You impress people at first, but then let them down by stating "its not a ______, its a replica."

I saw one in clearwater beach once, and there was alot of people gathered around it.. I could tell it was fake from 50 ft; they just have a look to them. I don't know what it is.. Its probably because the materials aren't the same as the real ones.

I would like to have a fiero and wedge a big block in it, twin turbo or S/c it, and slap some nos bottles on it. That thing would be a demon straight from the depths of haites. You'd probably have to extend the body a bit to fit the big block. Along with that stretch, I would chop the roof like your friend did. Next, maybe a real wide body kit, extend the axles, would be proper for adequate traction. You could get really crazy and try to fit an AWD drive train under it. About $50,000 later you could have the fastest fiero this side of the Mississippi.

I would guess the 0-60 time would be under 4 seconds, with a top speed of around 200 mph? Hell probably more if you could keep it stuck to the ground, and installed the right gears.

Wow what a car, that COULD have been.

I always loved Fieros. They were actually the first car I wanted. Dad on the otherhand was caught up on all that fire hype and wouldn't get me one. Then I started researching them and actually learning about all the "myths" and that the engine fire was reported in less than 1% (.07 to be exact) of the vehicles and only on the 84 models with the 2.5L. They fixed the reason that it was "possible" through tsb's and recalls. Most problems associated with them especially the cooling problems were either through improper fill or jacking techniques. Fiero's got an unfair rap because of that which is sad given it was a great platform especially after the 88 redesign where they used an actual suspension designed for the Fiero specifically ( almost an exact copy but actually not a Lotus design) not a FWD suspension turned around backwards and a front suspension pirated from a Chevette. Hell in 84 it beat out the new Corvette for pace car honors at the Indy 500. The 89 concept would have been a corvette killer but as you know it got the axe. They couldn't have a car that would out run and out handle the vette for less coin And if you look at the prototype you can see alot of 4th Gen Fbody in there.

LS1+Fiero = a car that will run autocross and the 1/4 very well for not that much coin I will have one as soon as I get some of these other projects taken care of.

There is a guy with a LS6's fiero that runs 11's named Nick Wagoner. Hes got a 150 shot but hasen't used it at the track yet. He actually wrote a book on how to install a LS1 into a Fiero. 2920 with driver and a modded LS1 is f'n quick. Now way I'd do a bonsai run in it thoug too short.

I've actually seen someone put a 350 in a fiero.. hard to keep the nose on the ground above 125MPH.. while a good idea in ones mind.. not the greatest.. it was fast as shit after they put some air scoops to get some down pressure though. looked like a dust pan porturding from the front of the car.

one cool LS2 swap i saw was into a 1985 porsche 944 i believe ( front drive rear trans axle) talk about a SWEET and very nimble car!

Are they cool? Only if you have an authentic members only jacket...

Ok just bustin your chops. A neighbor loves them and gave his most recent one to his mom. I kind of miss seeing the Fiero in the hood, hope he buys another one. He loves fixing them up. A guy at work has a GT as a DD, must love them too. I worked w/ a guy in HS and that was is first car.

All I remember was it rode like a go-cart, super low and seem to turn on a dime. I think they cool. I would drive an LS1 Fiero any day, and proudly sport my members only jacket, lol...

thanks for the flash back memories

The Fiero does look cool (the whole point was that it was a Ferrari-ish vehicle that the average person could afford). In actual fact, it was a cheap POS with an unreliable powertrain, crappy interior, crappy suspension, and crappy brakes--and it weighed too much also.

Long story short, if you're into performance, stay away from the Pontiac Fiero.

I thought the last GT's/Formulas made were okay, then GM killed it.

I like something a little different. If you got to have it I would get the best one you can buy, get suspension and tire and autoX it. Then you'll learn how to drive it and keep it running where handling is most important and 60-100mph acceleration isn't. Then boost it for some power. (Just trying to stay grounded here, not saying you couldn't build it to the moon, that takes alot of time and $$$)

It's up to you what's cool.

The 88's suspension was actually designed for the fiero and was on par with that of lotus, hence the rumors that the 88's used a lotus suspension. When it first came out they used suspensions from other cars which is why they were crap but the 88's are a different story. Drivetrains weren't impressive but this was also a time when a sedan could outrun a corvette (GN). The powertrain wasn't unreliable if you knew how to maintain it. Most idiots kinked the rad lines jacking it up or didn't know how to properly fill it.

slims00ls1z28 is right about these cars... the '88s are the pick of the litter, and a car will only treat u as well as u treat it, right? I wish I could find a clean 88...

My buddy has one, I call it the flamming canary. Its bright ass yellow. Anyways, no lambo or ferrari kits, but it does have some clean lookin ground effects. He gets a lot of shit for it but if you think about it, its not that bad of a poor mans project car. He bought his out of a junk yard for just a few hundred bucks. Stripped the car. It has some kind of aftermarket tubular suspension with coil-overs, corvette brakes, 17" rims to clear the brakes, ground effects, paint, and blown 3800. I think he said hes on his third engine and the total cost of the car is still under $10k. I'll post pics sometime. I forget how much the car weighs soaking wet but I think its around 1600 lbs. Powered with a 300 hp v6, its a fast car for the dollar.

With just a handful of mods a sc 3800 should put the fiero in the 12's easily.
