I just bought a 1998 z28 and the guy who I got it from told me it had 2.73 gears. I did not think they were available. How can I check without getting under the car and trying to count the turns?

If you have an auto without the optional gear package 2.73s is what you have. 3.23s were the only option. If you have a manual they are 3.42s.

2.73 is kind of weak.
What else is included in the gear package?
Does it still have a Posi Trac?
Lame, I know. But, this is my 1st LS car.

Check your door codes...
GU2 = 2.73 gears = A4
GU5 = 3.23 gears = A4
GU6 = 3.42 gears = M6
Yea you more than likely still have the Auburn limited slip in there they came stock with in 98.So you do have positive traction. Now go get you some 3.73 thick gears and have them installed and it will wake it up for you.

Rusty driveshaft=2.73 aluminum driveshaft =3.23. Guess it just depends on year for what type of diff. mine had 2.73's and the Torsen.
