Ok, I'm not talking about bad gears or motors. I'm talking about the loud noise made when these headlights simply open and close. When I turn off my lights and the headlamps close, everyone looks at the car like something just broke. They work fine, just noisy as hell. Any input on this???

Might as well get used to it - that's what they all sound like even when car was right off showroom floor :yup:

Haven't heard of anything to quiet them down - now if you had a problem with a stripped gear there is a fix for that...

Might try checking the mounting screws for the headlight cover. Mine were loose and/or missing, and the cover was making a thumping noise like you're talking about.

Mine makes a kind of loud noise also. The way the headlight motor is designed is the motor senses pressure on the shitty nylon gear and shuts off so it is going to keep going down until it realizes its fully down thats why it makes a loud bump and why the gears always strip out. Either that or your bolts are loose if its crazy loud which it shouldnt be.

The anteana makes some noise too. But it's only for like a second, so I don't care about it...and I drive home at night everyday.

I put in new window motors in mine this year and my windows are fast now ;)

The noise is literally designed into the motors. The way that the motor senses that they are full open or closed is when the linkage for the light literally runs into a metal overhang. When this happens the circuitry in the motor sees a massive increase in amperage and then shuts down. So, long story short, no thump, no stop. Also, this is what eventually tears up the gears inside by constantly trying to force their way past the stops.

to all the gears can be rotated 180* to wear on the oyher half, in normal operation only half the plastic gear is used thats pretty good

This is true but its going to be a pain in the ass to get the gear lined up properly. Its not just a simple switch around 180 degrees. The headlight position matters when you put it back together, kind of hard to explain unless you do it. Its just easier to go with a new brass gear.

i agree with nobles, it is a pain to explain. sometimes though, a replacement gear isnt the answer as in my case. the motor housing and the gear housing actually seperated. i tried to jbweld them back together, but it only worked for a few days. i was forced to buy a replacememt motor.

I did the 180 about a year ago...not hard at all, and so far, no problems.:beer3:

lol it is so very easy to turn the gear 180 and have it line up in litterally 2 min any idiot can do it and you dont have to be specific about it just turn the damn manual adjuster. My gear housing broke which took out my gears. I got the brass gears and had my dad weld brackets onto the motor so it doesnt move when i put the housing back together with a plastic welder..

oh as for the noise 90% of it comes from the top cover that goes over the lights, the one thats painted. I noticed they were really quiet after i installed the brass gears and then realised the top covers make the lound(bang) noise when they open and close..
