I blew out one of the woofers in my 98 Trans Am. The car has the factory Monsoon sound system. It's the one on the passenger side, in the back seat area just above the "arm rest".

1. How do you remove the big plastic piece the speaker is behind? (it takes up that whole part of the back seat area)

2. Am I better off to buy a better set of speakers or go to the dealer and buy a replacement?

There is a plastic grill that the speaker sits behind, the grill just pops out, its got like 4 tabs on it, But just sliding a screwdriver behind it will allow you to pop it out.
When i blew mine i just picked up some pioneer replacement speakers, i forget the size thou. 6x8's maybe?

nope, not 6x8. it is a 6.25 "mid woofer" and runs @ 2ohms. You'll want to replace it with a stock speaker [from ebay-you can find them dirt cheap] or Elemental Design's EU 700.

Once you remove the grill, you can pull on that plastic panel pretty hard without breaking it-that should give you room to put tools in there. BECAREFUL b/c the stock screws and their anchors are terrible. You might find it helpful to disgard them and get some self-driving screws.
