So I've had my car for several months now, and I have til Jan. then my warranty is up..I have an 02 WS6 w/A4..wanted the 6spd but the 10 or so i looked at were all driven to hell, beat up, used and abusedddd..mine i got from a 40 yr old woman w/extended warranty great shape..any way..

I am an agressive driver and after the warranty have big plans for my car under the hood..and while on the street if i have a rolling race i do down shift here and there when im racing a manual car..and the part that scared me the most i let my brother drive it and he did a neutral drop :ahh: ..LUCKILY it just roasted the tires and didnt hook up..( this was at the track) and he let off before getting COMPLETELY sideways..

How tough is the A4??

i prob have 350rwhp and i am pretty hard on it,no problems so far,one of the first things you should put on it is a stall or converter.i would look at every single thing on your car and any little thing you can find try to get it fixed,check your water pump for any kind of leak and any rear any leaks,my 01 SS the water pump had a tiny leak but had ext warranty.nice car good luck

Not much over 430 from the factory. Even stage 3 A4's dont live long. Alot of it is line pressure and correct tuning.which can be hard to get correct. Alot of people just go turbo 300 and move away from the electronicaly controled transmissions. Can you get a 700 + HP fbody with a A4 down the track yes. But it will not survie alot of passes.

oh def. ive been milking the warranty for all i can..already got the water pump both window motors, antenna motor, rear sway bar bushing, rear pinion seal, o2 sensor, coil, and a few other things..i told the shop to pick it apart and fix anything that they can find..and a few things that might eventually need to be fixed too lol..my car is stock other than SLP cat back exhaust and the SLP lid w/K&N filter and im pushin just under 330 rwhp..i had it dyno'ed at an all mustang car show (at a place called A.M.P {all mustang performance}) and put those GT's to shame, even the supercharged 5.0's were only pushin like 300 to the wheel and my roommates hit 298 supercharged, headers no cats bassani x pipe and all that

Speaking of the stall, how street able is it?
And does it kill the transmission or anything like that? Any negative effects of a stall?

if your going by #'s then only 300rwhp

not many people know how to decode a transmission.

so

4L60E stands for

4= 4 speed
L= longatodinal(sp)
60= add a 0 and divide by 2 to get your HP rating which is 300
E=electronic shift.

Thats pretty neat, never know about that coding, but my question is, lets say you get a few mods cam, tuned, exhuast ect. and you have the stock transmission and your pushing lets say 360hp, so does that mean the transmission can not handle it since it says 300?

it all depends on how you drive the car.
im stalled and have a cam.
as long as you dont flog the car from every light, youll be fine.

A cammed/stalled (no bigger than 3500) A4 lived 3 years.. Flogged and 100's of passes. A4 failed due to me letting the fluid get to low. A tranny cooler is a must..

Mine seems to be holding up fairly well.

I don't launch too hard at the track with it but it was solid there last night.

Btw, it dynoed 548 rwhp with the converter locked last weekend.

Yea I am not planning on getting a big stall, probably 2800 or 3000, I want to keep try to keep the car and get the most performance that I can

I suggest you find somebody who has one and either let get them to let you drive the car or give you a ride. That way you can find the difference between a 2800 and say a 3800.

if you have a cam in a auto car, a stall is a ABSOLUTE MUST....

like above stated dont beat the shit out of it all the time and you should be ok and get a transmission cooler.:nana:

it just depends on your driving style really. i know people with 350's plus rwhp with stock trannys running strong, but mines starting to slip and i've never been dynoed but am probably around 320ish maybe less. Someday's she'll kick sideways when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and some days the pressure just won't build up enough to shift firm. It just depends, but when it does go out i've heard a lot of good things about FLP's 60's. but it's all luck of the draw with a combo of driving style!

Theres no "cure-all" with this trans some will last behind 500 some might go (like mine) at stock levels. But Theres a reason most serious racers do not use the 4L60E.

Well when you do break the trans buy a built one from someone with a real warranty

Mine slipped on me for the first time saturday, ordered a stageIV today. No point letting it get worse, nip it in the butt now.

Well I would agree on nipping it in the bud
