Check the fluid level first & if ok, then time for a rebuild or a new tranny.

Just came back from the transmission shop.....I had barely no fluid and what I had was black....they said I had a tranmission leak and because I never checked the fluid, I ran it to nothing and that now i have they have to tear the whole transmission down.
How much does that normally cost?

As they've said, @ least $1,500.00. Makes me wonder about your other maintenance related items. Need to check or have someone check all the fluids, filters, & routine maintenance items. How many miles are on the car?

Yah, that kinda sucks. Although, a new or rebuilt transmission may make the car feel a bit stronger. If choosing a rebuild, have them install an inline magnetic filter. A small transmission cooler wouldn't hurt either.
Good-luck. :)
