I got my GTO about 2 months ago. I haven't had anyone to race until earlier tonight, it was a 97-03 GTP. I know because I used to own one. I was going to drop some things off at my girlfriend's house and I came to a red light. This GTP comes rolling up and he looks at me and starts laughing and revving his car while laughing at me. I was like wtf, it sounded like he did some exhaust work cause it didn't sound stock. I'm starting to get excited now because I can see my first kill! Wtf, the light hits green and I'm in front until we reach the other side of the street and that damn thing was like a :shitstorm:slingshot! He freaking killed me. My old GTP couldn't do that?! So what the hell happened? :unhappy:

somones gotta hit this up with a heavily modded gtp in the next few days....i know theres a guy on here that has one in the 11s....i have no clue what kind of modding it takes to get there but it has to be significant......i raced a gto yesterday as a matter a fact.....turning left onto a main road thats 2 lanes right behind him ......he jumps in the right lane...me left...we both hit it with him a car up on me......by the time i grabbed 3rd around 80 i had 1 full car on him and im pushin 400 rwhp...i was shocked he kept up that good.....that gtp was DEFINITLY highly modded

Damn I just went and looked at some of the times those modded ones run, there are some 9 second cars lol. I feel better now, I wish I would have known some of that when I had one. Now I need to mod the GTO lol.:zoom:

Bolt-on's- Mid to high 13's
+Mild cam-Low 13's street tires, high 12's DR's
+Intercooler-Low 12's DR's or Slicks
+Heads-Possible high 11's, at least very low 12's
Also a newer (Gen V) blower swap is good for 20WHP over a fully ported Gen III that the 97-03 come with.
We haven't even discussed turbo or nitrous :chuckles:
Oh and PS- A W-Body is not even close to an import, is a GN? :slap:

I've seen some very fast GTP's at the track before but most are mid 13 second cars, still very respectable. Fastest one I saw was a 11.6 car that I actually had to run against. Either way, the GTPs are not that nice to me and FWD. I would never own a FWD and try to make it go fast. Different strokes for different folks though.

Sounds like he probably was cammed and had an IC... I should hit 11's this year if I can get to the track. Actually, there are quite a few that run 10's, a few in the 9's and a few that hope to hit 8's this year.

I tend to agree with some others about his mods. If he was laughing outloud like that he probably knew. I have never had anyone laugh at me before a race unless they were really fast. Well except that moron in the stock 88 BMW 318, but he was an idiot.
I wouldnt beat yourselft up too much, just use it as a goal to start modding your GTO. Thats what I did when I got stomped by a VW bug convertible. I found out later from some people at the track that he had a highly modded Carrera turbo engine in it. He shifted through 4 gears before I got out of 1st.

My old GTX was a 00' and I did heads/cam/headers/intercooler/DR's/pulleys/ported eaton blower, plus custom exhaust and numerous other things. It runs like 11.7@120 if I remember right. It also put down 360rwhp with 125000 miles. It nice because my sister bought it from me so I can driver it every once and a while. she loves beating people with it, especially when she rolls down the window and sees they been beat by a chic.

The main reasons I bought it instead of an LS1 T/A:
1. Mileage
2. Winter driveability
3. Ride/seats
4. PRICE
5. $$$ for 2 cars
If it wasn't for that list, an LS1 T/A and a cheap FWD for winter would be in front of my place. Getting a FWD to hook is a bitch!

throw an intercooled magnusson blower on your goat and go gtp hunting....check out the numbers it puts down with it on lpe's site... lingenfelter.com aprox 600 flywheel horse for an ls2 with an intercooled mag..id imagine that would be VERY reliabe hp to

My best friend has a GTP and he's done a fair amount of work to it: Exhaust, CAI, U-bend delete, SC Pulley, PCM upgrade, weight reduction, etc. He's beaten a couple LT1 F-bodies and Edge body GTs. Definitely a sleeper!

theres 1-2 fast gtps runnin round lansing... havent quite figured out where they hide out tho.... somethign about a mid-michigan grand prix club.... they rent out stanton drag strip sometime in october.... i should go up there and kick there asses for them.... my buddy ses one of them is in the 11's.... anyone else wanna go pick on some gtp's if i get the date??

Blown V6 cars are fast, i should know :rotfl: My little 98 buick GSX will take most LS1 cars, takes my LS1 for sure. On slicks I run low 12s. The looks on peoples faces sometimes are priceless.

a 600 horse ls2 intercooled maggie gto should be good for at least low 11s if not high 10s

Those little blown V6's can be a beast with enough mods. I remember looking into it when I was looking for a fiero to put one into. There were a few sites advertising 500 HP (flywheel) and street manners. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Just be easy when you run into them...most are probably bolt-on high 13 cars lol. Good luck in your modding...
Oh and 35thAnniZ28 don't feel bad if you get beat by one...a lot of the turbo Grand Prixs/Regals are unable to get traction until 65-80 mph :true:

The lansing crowd hangs out in front of the Lansing South Precinct on Cedar. The cops don't mess with us when we are right in front of their building. I'm there on occasion but not as much as I use to be. I'd be happy to let you show me how fast your car is but don't be upset if mine is faster.

I had to give the local guy a hard time, he's way too cocky. I have raced a few LS1's and LS2's at the track and on the street and it must just be dumb luck but I beat all of them I've messed with. Before everyone get's exited if they modded their LS1 like I have My L67 they would be running 10's and waving goodbye to me.

I'm going racing up in Manistee this weekend. 1/8 mile but it should be fun.
From 25 I have no traction how about 35? Some other weekend.

I just blow the tires off at 25. First gear is useless on the street. I'm trying to run on street tires at the track this weekend to master tippy toeing the launch. I'll send another PM.

I ran with a gtp the night I first had my own 12 second quarter mile, I was cruising Fredericksburg after going to MIR and came up on a gtp with a plate that said 12 sec gp.
So me being the dumbass that I am, I told my buddy to ask him if that was in the 1/4 or the 1/8th......yeah, when he hung right with me down the next light.....I knew the answer to my stupid question.
They can be made very fast heheheh.

i asked around to see if anyone knew ya i ended up racing one of them turboed out hondas instead(instant kill as soon as i got over 4g's in 1st).... im headin up to stanton this saturday with my buddy whos got a 98 z28 with a sts single turbo(depending if i have to work my saturday which is actually a friday night since im on 3rd shift) for some f-body meet i guess... you should come up and see how many ls1's you can beat, starting with mine (your confidence almost assures me your victory)...
as for the 20th of october im parking my car for the winter the 15th after i go to a court date in howell to testify for a friend....
im not goin anywhere if we dont hook up this fall ill be out in the spring for sure... but in the spring im not promissing the same car(performance wise) im offering you to run this weekend....:box:

I can't run Saturday, that's our club dyno day. I have some tuning to do before the 20th. I'm sure there are quited a few LS1's I could run with but obviously if they have done what I have done to mine I'd be seeing tail lights. I try to pick my races wisely. I think with your current mods we would have a good run. If you do more then I probably would be in trouble. Time will tell, probably have to run you next spring.
I'm not racing the bike....no brainer. Maybe with my GN when it's done.

So some can be easily 12s street car...some even faster. Add in DR/Slicks, race gas and well unless the ol LSX is fairly well modded you might be surprised. Heck I am 306 wheel hp and I am not even intercooled...although I do have the above mentioned Gen V blower.

I think it's $40.00 for two pulls but it is probably limited to our club members only. I have seen some local non club member cars there in the past so they might let you run. I'd rather you keep the insurance on it one more week and run me at Stanton on the 20th. Or if your back in town tomorrow night some of us will probaby go to the lot. Maybe we can run then. I'd rather run at the track because I really can't use more than a blip of first gear on street tires. If your interested in our dyno day I'll ask if they'll let you run. We could settle for a HP challenge this year;)

I went 12.75 to John Deere's spinning 13.85 . I had the luxury of Quick Time Pros so he didn't have much of a chance. The best my car ran was a 12.60 @108.8 which was a new PB. Not bad for a FWD family car.

Just a few mods ;). Mine should be faster but I was slipping the belt with a 2.8 pulley. So I had to run a 3.0 at only 11#'s of boost. A bit of tuning and a new belt I shoud run low 12's.....I hope.

Well I guess I'm part to blame for the ragging your getting. I did post your time as 13.85 to my 12.75. We both ran better later in the day and I guess I never mentioned it. I'm sure your times would be better if you could figure out how to speed shift and get rid of that bogg. You should get a tune but if your going to change the set up wait until that's done. I would like to see you mod it up and run me next year. Some drag radials would help you as well. Can't use the power if you can't hook up. Sorry if your getting beat up on this I wasn't trying to get you flamed on this.
just get to work on things and we can rematch next year;).

those guys are relentless about my driving.... get about 4 beers in me and im wayyyy better... i was afraid to leave any harder casue it sounded liek my rear end was going to gernade!! i guess if i had a A4 i coudl jsut push the gas like everyoen else and not have to worry abotu people certiquing my shifting abilitys..... and as for everyoen saying my car shoudl be taken away from me based on not being abel to drive it, come get it, ill call it in, get insurance money and build a fuckin duramax pickup to kick there asses with.... all them guys are welcome to come run me at a 25 mph roll.....
and its nice to see everyoen on that page seems no what my car SHOULD run... and i think my best time was a 13.63.. not the 13.85 i seen get used soo much in discussion...
but at the end of the day my cars your typical t/a youd see runnign around town and for the most part i still stand by my claim i cna take most typical gtp's(like the guy i see on creyts road all the time when im heading into work who always trys to race me and gets his ass kicked).... i never claimed to be the drag strip pro:jerkit: and the f-body master....
guess i shoudla just bitched out and not went???....
im soo glad to be putin that car up for the winter right about now, and have alll winter to plot my redemption..... maybe ill bolt my stock shifter to my lazy boy and practice all winter

4 of those guys in that post have LS1's...2 with a lot more mods than you...I told you to take what they say with a grain of salt. When I told people I ran a 14.2 with a 2.3 sixty they flipped out, my car should be running low 13's all day long. No one took into account the track conditions, yet you even said "what are they all excited about, a 12 flat?" when Babe was racing. Track conditions were good but not great and the 25 mph headwind was slowing everyone down a lot. As for the Grand Prix guys, a lot of those guys "know" that a properly driven LS1 should run 12's all day, a lot of them also think the LS1 is god...whenever one of them hears about someone running slower than a 12 in an LS1 f-body they all say the driver sucks or the car is broken. (But almost all of them think that the LT1 they lost to with their bolt-on GTP MUST have been heavily modded!) You probably could have been deeper in the 13's if you shifted harder and faster, but if your trans/rear was objecting then it is good that you didn't blow either one up. You also must have missed my post when I corrected GN that you ran a 13.6, which I thought was pretty good since you were babying your car. You did decent for your first time at the track, and all three of us learned new things about our cars. Don't be so pissed, I couldn't get out of the 14's! Did you see my worst pass? It was a lot worse than your 14.4! What you said about you being able to take most GTP's is true, you could probably even take mine from a roll. You need to get a tune, what are you planning for the winter, did you decide on N/A or FI?

i dunno i think im gonna focus on snocross this winter and around mid march get the car back in my mind.... ive been lookin into superchargers so i can keep my exhaust but there just as much as that aps twin turbo kit.... who nos what im gonna end up doin but somethgin cool is gonna happen to that car by spring time... for some reason the burnt orange gto's and the teal green ones are catchin my eye lately... tryign to hold out on runnin otu and pickin one of them up.....
that one video of me runnin solo is the one where i rolled through the water box and dint blow my tires off (boy did i have my head up my ass on that one)... i was spinning till the time where it sounds liek i missed a shift where i let off enough for it to grip so i could go again...
and yeah when i was laid off for that month and a half i was really depressed and that car has seen some budlight induced speed shifts....
