Likely to break the rear at the track?

I am looking at buying some wheels and tires to swap on for track days and i got an offer for some 28x10.5 MT ETs and i was wondering if that would be too much tire for a stock rear on an M6 car thats got an intake and exhaust, as well as a spec stage 2. Any help is much appreciated.

Yup... I've seen the 10 bolts in these cars break with the stock tires. There really isn't anything you can do to build them up, the design is just too small with a 7.5" diameter ring and pinion. Bob

It's always a gamble. I have a spec stage 2 and a few bolt ons as well as 4.10's, and with drag radials I haven't broken anything yet, and this is at 4,500rpm launches. My bf's formula makes over 500hp on a ten bolt with 3.73's and a stage 3 clutch, and it runs strong as well so far.

Why the MT ETs? With your mods I think just a regular BFG/Nitto drag radial would do the trick just fine.

Thats what sucks about 10 bolts, so unpredictable. My friend has a big block 84 Z28 that puts 475 to the ground, it hasn't broke yet. Then I know a guy who has broken 4 in a stock 2001 Z28 and another guy that busted one in a V6 Firebird. Its a gamble I guess, but stickier tires, higher ratio gears are sure going to make it break quicker.

i'll be honest, i really don't know too much about the rears on these cars. what are some popular swaps and how much would they run if i did them myself?
