k, first id like to say that i know going in excess of the speed limit is illegal and very dangerous. with that said, whats the fastest youve ever gone? i know going down the highway, no one is around and its one of those days (you know, the days that you just want to drive, one of those indescribable feelings), its impossiable to not mash the throttle and go. If you drive an fbody and dont push it to its potential, its just wrong.

ive had mine up to 165 while racing someone. I could have kept going but i figured i proved my point and it was REALLY FAST!!! I DEFINITLY dont recomend doing it unless you have all the proper mods and some damn good tires! Ive read about some people here going 170-180. So these cars will haul ass!

How did you know you were going 165 when our speedometers only go up to 155? I have seen aftermarket speedometers that go up to 200mph so I do know its possible.

the 165 is an estimate sorry i should have mentioned that. I was on the highway and it was buried! It was buried for a while so it may have been 160 or 170 or more but i am sure it was at least 160 cause it was buried for a little while and i kept going!

I have heard that top speed for stock is 166, I dont know what you have to do to get it to make better than that or if there is something that will slow you down or cut off in the computer. But that is just what I have heard and the guy I bought mine off of told me.

130 for me in this car and that was racing the 3000GT VR4 see "Wreck Kill Stories". Did 170 on my bike back when I was crazy (last thursday). I have a 98 and from what I can see mine is Drag Limited to 157. I know even the little hand held computer programs can remove that.

the limiter is set to like 120-125 on f-bodies that came from the factory with non-Z rated tires.

honestly i never heard of that till now. Besides i was more focused on not crashing! It was an open highway, but i had my g/f in the car she was actually loving it!

i reprogrammed my computer to elimate the governor. Im pretty sure its just the tire rating that makes you have it governed at 155 once you rate it at a higher tire rating then it changes you top speed

I have heard the top speed on a factory WS6 6spd is 157-162. I thought I read somewhere years ago that 162 is the limit. I did 119 at the 'track'

PS - The cops where i live ARE seriously. Points, fines, tickets, and in some cases impound......

I had mine in Germany when I was stationed there and I used to drive on the autobahn at 100mph on a daily basis. I've pinned the needle so 155+ I burned out my cruise control because I used to set it at 120mph :D

I have set my cruise control at 150mph before,
My stock speed limiter cuts off at 168mph but I used a hypertech to change it to 255mph not like the car can go that fast but I can at least run the car to everything it has, I have hit around 170 mph or so and let off.

145 mph before i backed off racing a WRX STI. Fastest i have been. Was headed north on I 45 from Houston to Dallas. yep, i won... those little car are pretty quick though. :yup: or at least this one was.

When I scanned my car with HPTuners, the limiter was set at 160. It came with Z rated tires.

The fastest I've ever driven was 130mph on two seperate occasions. Both times the car was completely stock and it scared the hell out of me! The car was very unstable. Too much swaying around and shit.

Since then I've replaced my stock suspension: SLP Sub-frame connectors, Strut-tower Brace & Lower Control Arms; Firehawk/SS springs, shocks, & sways; and LG Motorsports panhard bar. With a 175 shot vs some crazy import, I took it up high again, but can't tell you what. It was near or over 5000 RPMs in my A4 though, so I'm assuming 140-150mph. BUT! My car handled much better. It didn't even feel like I was going that fast.

But don't street race it's illegal and dangerous! ...even though I want a rematch.

Somewhere I read the speed limiter was set to 163mph. I've only had mine up to about 130-135 so far. Haven't put many miles on it since I've owned it. Only about 2000 miles in 2.5 years! That'll keep it new, 2000 WS6 w/ 22k! Sits in the garage while it rains here in Seattle (which is pretty damn often!)

Did 171 mph playin tag with a vette.. Reason i knew i was doing 171 because the vette was doing about 165 when i was passing him and it was my friends vette so he informed me when we stopped. Never the less i won hehe:beer3: but they do make 1 200mph speedodomer for our car but if i'm not mistaken i do believe it is the camaro guages so the lighting will be different and not match the interior (red) of our cars. I know it will fit but as for an EXACT 200MPH guages for our T/As i dont think they have one!!

You also have to consider what gears you're running when your talking about top speed. Those of us who still run 3:23s will have a higher top end than anyone who's switched to 3:73s. I buried mine once last month too and was still picking up speed so I know I was going faster than 155.

I haven't had the Hawk over 115 yet. Had my 2000 SS up to 135 once. These cars get up to those speeds so fast, you really need to make sure you are aware of the speed and surroundings.

Ive been to 147 before. I thought the car seemed a little limited though, my guess was because the big "air dam" headlights were up? How much faster do yall go with your headlights down? I can never find a place to do it in the daylight, so at night, im definatley going to have my lights on. I raced a dodge neon srt-4 sat. night from about 70 to 140. As soon as i got to 140 its like it started accelerating a lot slower. Tell me what you guys thing about the headlights, im really interested to know how fast it will go with them down. Drag limited = need more power, aero drag is too much.
Electronically limited = computer cuts you off
Governed = computer or mechanical thingy cuts you off
Redline limited = need longer gear, bumping into redline

Examples:
Our cars are Drag limited to around 165-170 in 5th gear (with limiters removed).
Our cars are Electronically limited to 157-162 in stock form.
Our cars are Governed at 157-162 by the computer in stock form.
Our cars are Redline limited in 4th gear (so we use 5th).

I make it a point to top out any vehicle I drive, assuming I have an opportunity. So yeah, I've gone 150+ in several different cars over the years, and well over 100 in various vans and SUV's.

My experience with 4th gen Fbody's is limited to my own '98 Z28 with a stock motor and 4.10 gears (stupid previous owner, I hate short rearends). I've bumped the limiter (~160) a few times in 5th, which happens to be right about at redline, though I can't say exactly since I'm not looking at the tach at those speeds. In 6th I've had it up as high as 148...was still pulling slightly, so maybe with a couple more miles I could have touched 150? In any case the only reason I can get that far in 6th is the accursed 4.10's, otherwise it would be more like 140. Incidentally, 6th in my stock-gearing C5 saw 151 and still pulling, so I guess there is a huge aero advantage to the vette (174 in 5th).

the top speed on an LS1 with the "z" rated tires is not governed. It is estimated at 165 bone stock on a ws6 or ss. The governer that is set at 155 is not on the LS1's, it is on all of the German made cars because that is the speed limit or restriction on the autobahn. The governer is set so low on the f-bodies with non-z rated tires because they come with "t" speed rated tires which can only maintain a top speed of 118mph safely.

I have a '97 with an M6 and 2.73s (go ahead and ask, I answer why all the time)
From my experience I dont' know how fast I was going but after about 160 where the needle hits the stopper I increased about 1500-1700 rpm, my needle twisted on the shaft so when I came down the needle hit the bottom stopper while I was still doing about 25-30. Factory M6 Z's don't have a limiter, and T/As I don't know, I know I raced a 97 T/A once that was limited to 130 but it changed in 98. They didn't limit the M6 cars because they don't have sufficient power to excede the z-tire rating, anyone who has one knows you stick it in 6th at 140+ and you have virtually NO pull if you're stock. I wish I knew how fast I was going that time though, I felt bad afterwards, but I was PISSED that night, and nothing cools you off like beatin the hell out of the Z

Cut down a tire at 160 mph in one of these plastic and tin death-traps?? Hit a chunk of debris on the highway at 165 mph??? Throw a rod through the block and pour oil over the rear wheels at 160 mph??? I have no HANS device, roll cage, fire supression system, 5 point harness or a spotter in a helicopter to insure the road is clear...therefore...I do the speed limit. My foot did slip once and I couldn't get it un-stuck from the throttle and and I started going fast....130 mph. The car shook and wobbled....tire out of balance or something.
