Battery just went, PERFECT time to make the switch to the red top Optima. Threw one in, looks great, holds a strong charge. I've seen many people on here w/ em, tell me your likes/dislikes... It seems alil heavier than the stocker. I just like the idea of having a drycell.

Had optimas in my last two cars. No problems with it at all. Cheapest place I seen was Costco, I got mine for less than $100.00

I had one in my 97 Camaro and the car got totaled in the front end. The battery was squeezed inbetween the inner fender and the rad support. It took a big chunk outta the top.
It is now in my 98 Camaro and it is (I think) 4 years old!

My red top has been in three different vehicles in 4 years. I bought mine at work for about $110.00 with my employee discount(store manager for Advance Auto Parts). they normally go for $128.88 for a red top, and $158.88 for the yellow tops. I used to also have a blue top that was in the car for the stereo system that I had, and never had a battery isolator and had not trouble. I owned that battery for two years and then sold it to a friend who has been using for two race seasons with no trouble. The only time I have seen the optima batteries have problem is after hurricane Katrina, and we would have alot of comebacks. I think with the amount of batteries being sold, the quality went down some.

I have red tops in my T/A and in my Vette. They are the best that I've used so far. I've had no issues with them at all. I only drive my Vette a few times a year and the battery is always good.

oh-and now that i'm thinking about it-it also didn't fit into the holder in my t/a. after it was installed, i noticed it was just sitting lose (dealership i bought it from swapped batteries for me). anyone else have issues? If i remember right, the holder may have been broken (or i broke it trying to make it fit...one or the other) and i 'temporarily' rigged it with a rubber tie-down. (I know...) not trying to hi-jack, but if its a problem the answer would help us both :)

I've got a red top going on three years old. Each of my cars has an Optima because they are the best battery on the market! If your car isn't a daily driver, as mine used to be, a battery tender may be required if your'e going to store it for more than a year. I have discharged 2 red tops (never yellow) to the point that they wouldn't hold a charge, so what's $40 to save your battery?

have the red top and love it, also goes great with my red accent in my engine bay
whats different about the red to the yellow?

yellow is a deep-cycle. designed for higher current draw, especially with vehicle turned off. It won't drain as quickly as a conventional battery.

Yellow top- Probably one of the best things to spend money on.. I've had one in my 91' z28 for 4 years and got one for my 02' SS. they last about 5 years is what I've noticed.

i had a yellow cap in my old car. then when i bout my ss it came with a red top..i heard that if you completely drain a red cap that it could explode..sounds a bit overboard to me..

I had a red top in my Camaro before deployment, took the car to TMO, came back the battery was fucked up because of TMO, asked the owner how it was that I could come to him with a perfectly good battery and come back and it was fucked up. His comment to me and I quote "That's what happens when you get a cheap battery, they don't last, red tops are one of the cheapest batteries out there." I would like to say he is full of shit, I never had a problem with the battery. Well worth the extra buck, or well worth savin a few bucks according to the dipshit at TMO.

I went with the BRM battery tray. Bought the biggest cable they had at NAPA. went to local electric supply to buy all the connecters that where needsd to tie back into the orginal cables. Routed positive cable thur the interior and under carpet. Went out the firewall thur a rubber garoment (? spelling). Negative cable grounded in trunk. 2-3 hours max.

I bought 12-14 feet of red battery cable from NAPA. I don't remember the gauge of the wire, O or OO , just ask for the heaviest guage. The least number of connecters the better.

I've been running the Same Red Top OPTIMA for 4 years now... it used to be in my Ford Explorer with a 800watt amp, 2... 12inch woofers... and a 200watt sony head unit... and then it moved on to my Camaro that killed 2 alternators already...and had to run it on the battery for a while... I love that Optima...and it keeps going and going...I'm sure gonna hate when it dies...
new ones now a days cost $150 for the RedTop... back in the day I got mine for $90...

Thats true, 90% of the Optima batteries we sell at work are the people who know what they are and want them. I am also the type of person that if I want something I am going to buy it, and price is not an object as long as I know the quality.

have a red top. came with car so don't know how old. startups are instant, i do love it.
also when i was moving my sis out of college, there were no parking spaces so i parked at a curb and left the emergency lights flashing. ended up leaving it there for over 5 hours. then when leaving to move it, i heard someone saying "that car has had its lights on for hours, its not going to start." i passed then silently, got in the car cranked it, and it instantly came on as if a normal warm start.

^ You mean red or yellow? Yellow is basically used for playing high wattage music at a car show and a bunch of screens and such with the engine off. Red is good enough for the average person. But if you can get a yellow for a little extra, you might as well get it.
