On a 98 z28 when you take out the rear u joint does the pinion shaft just pull out of the rear end so you can replace the pinion seal? Can you tell me how to replace the pinion seal? Thanks

You will not need to take off the pinion shaft. Take a flat head screwdriver and pry off the old seal. Clean up where the old seal was. Install the new seal, set it in and knock the seal in. I used a block of wood against the seal and whacked the wood softly. After each wack make sure the seal is going in evenly. Continue knocking the seal til its flush with the housing. Then install the u-joint and so on. Good luck

Not sure if the fluid will leak out, my fluid was drained when i changed the seal. If you put the car on a lift, then I would say no, if the rear end of the car is jack up then I would day yes. The yoke needs to be removed. Its held on by a large nut. I think its a 32 mm nut. After removing the nut you should be able to knock off the yoke. You might need a hard plastic mallet to hit it off. Don't use a metal hammer you might damaged the yoke.
