Tranny cooler question

I read on the Performabuilt website that when you install a transmission cooler it is best to take the stock transmission cooler out of the loop because of the radiator temp interferring with the transmission fluid temperature. This makes sense but I wanted to get some peoples opinions that have an aftermarket trans cooler installed and what temperature the fluid usually reads if you have a guage. Thanks for any input on this.

I left it in the loop, the trans fluid goes into the bottom of the radiator, out to the cooler, back to the transmission.

Seeing that you live in Florida I would take it out of the rad.
All it is doing is prewarming your fluid. It will also be more effiecent with it not being in the loop.
Heat is the #1 killer for trannys. But hey what do I know I only worked at a trans shop for 3 years and live in the hottest city out west here.....:hmm:
There is a inline filter that has a VERY powerful magnet that you need to add to the line right before you run it into the new cooler also.

Thanks for the info. I am installing a new transmission at the same time the new cooler is going in do you think I still need that inline filter/magnet or is that for older transmissions?

Yes MOST definitely it will help it last longer by trapping smaller metal debris. Most tranny shops out here won't warranty it with out one installed. the temp all depends on how loose of a conv. your running. The looser it is the more heat it normally generates.
Your trans has already been rebuilt....? Or it is currently getting done? If it's not done already I would HIGHLY recommend a TransGo ShiftKit be installed now and make sure if your using a stock sun shell it get welded!
