Hi, this is my first post.
I've found a 1998 Z28 6spd for $8000. It's a nice car, but has 100k miles.
I'm really only familiar with old BMWs (which, for the record, are very very reliable)
I figure the Small Block Chevy V8 has to be mechanically reliable, but what other things could go wrong with a 100k mile car like this?
What things should I be looking at before I purchase one?
if there's a FAQ on purchasing these, could someone point me in the right direction? I didn't see anything when I searched.
Thanks in advance

So im new too, but i can tell you that i have a 1994 V6 and it has more then 200,000 miles and i have never had problems with my engine.. i had to replace the clutch once, and at this time i need to buy a new propeller shaft, but other then that that car has been worth every penny i paid for it. (considering i drive it like a stole it)
PS if you can tell me where i can find a propeller shaft for my 5 speed v6 i would appreciate it. Its easy to find drive shafts for z28s but apparently mine is the only camaro v6 ever that has ever needed a propeller shaft, cause no one sells used ones.

in all honesty, 8k for 100k 98 isnt that good of a deal. if it was 6 it would be worth it, but honestly, you can get an ls1 with 50k for 9-10k, 1998 or 1999. just wait it out and shop around, i swear you'll find a better deal.

one of my buddies is selling his 99 z-28 with a decent amount of mods(which includes a 4"cowl induction hood) and is kept stored for the winters has 50-60 thousand miles on it. The bottom line is $9,500.

Hi, this is my first post.
I've found a 1998 Z28 6spd for $8000. It's a nice car, but has 100k miles.
That's not really that great of a deal, keep searching...that car is probably only worth around $6k.
What things should I be looking at before I purchase one?
if there's a FAQ on purchasing these, could someone point me in the right direction? I didn't see anything when I searched.
This is a new site, we just lost our old one, so it will take a while for a good wealth of information to pass through this site and become searchable once again. You'll want to shop for an LS1 car like you would shop for any other car...very carefully. Especially with an LS1 you'll probably want to make sure it hasn't been modified just to make things easier. Take a look at the air filter, see if that has been changed to an aftermarket one...make sure it's got original exhaust components (98-00 cars will have EGR/AIR). No random holes drilled here and there, and everything in its original place.
Some LS1 cars will have piston slap, that is somewhat normal. Almost every car will have a leaking pinion seal, that isn't a huge deal either. When you drive a manual, see that it goes smoothly into every gear...like I said it's basically just like shopping for a regular car, check out everything mechanical very thoroughly!

I picked this up last week for less than 10,000. '99 Z28 LS1 6spd T56, 45,000 miles. Nothing at all wrong except very small wear on driver side leather.
