I have a 98Z28 a4 and I notice when I slow down for a red light etc. I can feel the transmission downshift kinda like some people do with a manual car. I never noticed it as much as I do now. It also has a bit of slack or slop when shifting from 2-3rd at low throttle. Anyone ever had these symptoms? Can it be fixed? THANKS

sounds like your tranny might be slippin, not good. Get it checked and take it easy on it

It can be fixed, most anything can be fixed, but it sounds like your tranny is dying on you. Its probably going to need a rebuild sooner than later.

It doesnt slip at all when shifting 1-2-3-4 but I kinda think I might go with a new one soon. It makes a banging sound when going from 2-3 like there is slack.

Sometimes the 3-2 down shift when coming to a traffic light can be noticeable. TransGo has you grind four slots in the steel cover that retains the cushion spring for the 2nd gear apply servo. This lets the oil in & out quicker on the 1-2 & 3-2 shifts. Go get a TransGo 700R4 Junior Shift kit instructions, and do the modifications shown on this. This will help solve this in most cases. I do this on all of my units that I build, and include the instructions for this modification in all of my rebuild kits.

Thank you sir- I will have to get it done at my local shop cause of health issues but its worth a shot. I have a slight banging or slack when my car shifts from 2-3 under light throttle as well. It doesnt do it every time though. If I give it moderate throttle it will not bang at all. It is a very gentle bang that is hard to hear but I can hear it. I am gonna take it to my local shop to get it looked at but do you have any suggestions as far as what it could be or what to look for? I thought maybe you may have encountered something like this before. Thanks again.

The guts to a 700 and 4L60e are pretty much the same a few minor differences but parts like that are interchangeable.
