Hey guys I'm rebuilding motor and cant decide between stroking it to a 382 or a 409. I'm on a budget so which will be most cost effective (bang for the buck). Which will last longer (stronger) and which one will give more horse power and torque. I thought about the 427 but cant afford that now. What are the pros and cons of the two build ups?

the smaller cubes will be cheaper because with the 402/8/9 you need so many different parts to complete the setup where as with the 38x you can swap over stock parts. It will still produce a great amount of torque!! If your on a budget then thats probably the route to take. If you dont already have heads you will need to get some to help the engine flow better, a stage 1 or 2.5 is prime for a 38x, but for the bigger cubes 40x then you will need to go with a stage 3 head which is much more expensive. Just my thoughts on it.

a 409 will require you to resleeve the block which is not at all cheap. with a 383 or 382 you just need some cylinder work to match for clearance but you won't need to resleeve the block like a 409

Why not just get a 402 stroker that doesn't require resleeving (which you want to kind of stay away from, I mean resleeving)

You will have better Piston Rod angles than a 382.

OH, your sticking with the 5.7L block instead of going to the 6.OL block,

Go to the six, its worth it.
