Will a 99 Z28 PCM produce a trouble code if the fuel pump is failing?

Will the crank sensor or the cam sensor create a trouble code if they are failing intermittently?

fuel pump failing - you might get lean codes, if the pump is bad enough.

cam and crank sensors - yes and no. depends if they fall into the parameters to flip on the light.

During the burn out I feal it dying for a fraction of a second. Launches hard, 1.78 60 foot times. Goes into second at 5900 to 6000 rpm with no problems. Then right before it should go into 3rd the motor completely shuts down at 6000 rpm. Electrical power is still on. Coast around to the return road. Put it in neutral and crank it up and it starts with no problem. Put it in drive and it comes on and off until it finally dies again.

I was thinking fuel pump too. Anyone with the same experience?

Thanks MRR23, have no trouble codes showing up on my diablo.

I have a strange loss of HP between 6 and 6.5K. Not a complete shutdown though.

Unfortuantly I dont think there is much you can do to test the fuel pump.....it either works or it doesn't......if you could put a pressure gauge on it and somehow watch and see what it's doing that would help.......at least let you know if it's pushing fuel or not.....

I have a mechanical fuel psi guage on order and will find out what the fuel pump does at the top end.

Blackwidow, sounds like your rev limiter is kicking in.

Hope it works out........if you see the pressure dropping drastically then I'd replace the pump......

Its not the fuel pump. The pump is putting out close to 60 psi. Even when it dies. Electrical power stays on when the engine dies.

Going for the crank and cam sensors this time.

Does the intake have to come off to change the cam sensor?

Changed the crank sensor, it didn't help.

Figured it out and fixed it myself.

The tune. I use a diablo and I am very careful with it. I have a nephew that is well versed in its use. I don't know if it was something he did - was more than likely me. I changed the crank sensor. the valve springs. The push rods. Had them out twice to make sure that they were installed right. Reinstalled the factory MAF and it would still die on me.

I checked the starter switch on top of the steering column to make sure that it wasn't loose.

I have the battery in the back and check for loose connection or a short from chafing damage.

I have fabricated my own ram air and put the original air lid back on and it still crapped out on me.

Just when I was going to give up I got the diablo out and put in the factory tune back in and the thing rocks again.

When I had the problem the speedometer would act like a ohm meter for the amount that I would press on the gas pedal. My gas pedal was a rheostat. and the voltage or resistance would show up on the speedometer.

God I love these Fbody's. What a challenge. I am ready to get back to the strip and whip those fagaru's, (subaru's) and mustangs.
