what is the purpose of the underbody front air dam ?
can i remove it without causing preformance loss ?

Think you'll overheat without it.

It directs air into the radiator. I wouldn't recommend it seeing how thats the only airflow for your radiator.

I'm looking at the site, but what exactly is it called. My air dam is missing from the car I just bought and it overheats greatly!!

lol...i thought it was to kinda force air up to the lid...i guess it'll be hot air :(

No-your price there is arond $29.00. Full retail is around $40.00-you were reading it wrong. Back in 1999 they were more like $13.00! Oh well....
Wanted to point out that there is no way it is going to direct more air into the 'lid' without doing the free mod.
These things mainly effect air flow to the radiator at highway speeds. At least in my experience with driving with one off.

I bought mine used from a local guy. I can notice a difference in city (25-45 MPH) and on highway as well.
