View Full Version : LS7 Crate Motor...Will it Fit???
Whats up guys, Im new here:)
My friends dad has a 2001 Camaro SS, he is wanting to do a motor swap to the GM Performance 427ci LS7 Crate Motor. Its a lot of money ($13,000 TurnKey) and I was wondering if this will work? I know its a 505hp motor, but it has a high compression ratio....so is it safe to tell him his plans on strapping a blower on it can go out the window??
Thanks

if you lower the compression then i dont see why it couldn't work?

does the ls7 need a diff pcm and harness? what is needed to swap in a ls7...anyone know?

True, But I dont think he wants to mess with that, he was just wanting to Buy it and strap a blower on there, so I told him with it being a high compression motor(I think 12.0:1) then it would not be the right thing to do.

The LS7 is a smallblock engine, it may be tight, but it should fit.

you wont just be able drop this in. first of all your going to need a new rearend. and it has a dry sump oil system(not sure if this will effect anything or not but just getting it ot there) you should be able to get by with the stock PCM all the ls7 is is a less beaffy C5R.

i would have made sure that everything would go together before i bought the motor, and ure not going to be able to just drop the motor right in
good luck
let us know how it turns out, i was even thinking about an ls7 swap in the future.
Thanks to all you guys for the help. Believe me I told him to ask around first, and he said he asked the guy he was ordering it from and he said it will be tight, but will fit. I'll Post pics up of everything and then a Video feed after its done of the car

It can be done.it will all fit just gonna have to be willing to invest a little time into building some stuff yourself and finding out what will work for your application.
