2003 5.3L clutch fan removal

Can someone tell me how to remove the clutch fan assembly? I want to transplant this engine but I plan on using electric fans.

the fan is held on by one big nut on the shaft, not your typical 4 or 6 bolts holding a bracket to the pulley. It is a very simple removal once you get the fan shroud off! I put electric fans on my 04 4x4 it took me a couple of hrs to compleat the whole thing...

I prefer the old school fan/clutch setup on my truck. Yea it robs some power but the temp is always steady and there's not a huge draw on the electrical system....the water pumps don't seem to last as long though.

yea... it just depends on the pourpose of the vehicle.

my s-10 has the old school faan and theres no way im gonna change it
if it was a race truck, then yea, but wtf do i care about a few extra hp for my stock dd

You are talkin about minimal load on the alternator....Most alternators i know of are 120amps Stock. 40amps (2 fans with 20 amp fuses) is nuttin..Plus if you are runnin in heavy traffic electric fans are much better than mechnical for your gettin max flow at low RPM...Additially when you pick up speed, the electric fans allow max flow with no push backs...

You can't get electric fans on the HD trucks for a reason...clutch fans pull a lot more cfm at low-mid rpms then electric fans. That's pretty common knowledge...or at least I thought it was.

The only reason GM started putting electric fans in the 1/2 tons is for increases fuel efficency and higher hp numbers (hp sells vehicles). If you're actually going to use your truck as a truck (towing, hauling up hills and down) you need a clutch fan.

I would argue that statement, i have done plenty of mountain runs...And I push hard almost all the time...

I also pull my 22' boat at 75mph in 120F weather, no overheats yet...
