Yesterday I spent a few hours on washing my car and vacuumimg it etc. It looked good. I woke up late today(stayed up really late) and after getting a drink went outside to look around and admire my car. I walked over to my car and it had this shit that looked like cigarette ashes all over it. I was like WTF????? I looked in the sky and it was all smokey and kinda weird smell outside. Apparently wild fires around Florida and Georgia are causing this white ash to be blown all around!!! Ahhh-the never ending quest to keep a black camaro clean.....................:fire: =:cuss:

I truly pity anyone that tries to keep their car nice without a garage. I did that crap for 3 years with my vert and a car cover. Constantly washing it, constantly cleaning the wheels, all the details blah blah blah. My current Camaro is a garage queen and hasn't seen a car wash in 9 months now. The luxury of having a garage is priceless. :D

Yeah this ash crap is getting out of hand here in fl. Its only getting worse now that there are even more fires here locally and not just goregia anymore. We had a local ls1 meet last weekend and we all went in to eat at a local resturant. It was very nice out eveyones cars were clean we came out and it was smokey as hell and eveyones car was covered in ash.

Yeah, PS is amongst the top waxes in the world
No, I've never used it. I've been tempted to get some this year. AG was running a special deal/package with the PS
As far as paste wax I now have Victoria Concours Wax. Very fine wax I must say, it has decent durability (~2months+)

I use two type of glazes for black car
Red Moose Machine Glaze (http://pakshak.com/moose-twins-combo-special.html) by Clearkote (RMG) is clearly one of my favorites. It leaves a lovely finish when topped with a carnuaba wax
Yesterday, I've started using another glaze called Prima: Amigo (http://www.detailersparadise.com/View.asp?Id=K189-Q069015135196-Y695-Y20060727122351) and I liked it. I used it on a blue metallic vibe. I will post pics of it hopefully later tonight, or tomorrow. I like this particular one because it's what I was looking for. A glaze that will not present any bonding issues when using a sealant. I use sealants a lot :)
The last two cars I've done, I've used RMG. Great stuff!
Here's a link of a guy using RMG on a nice black Mustang...
http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=554456
I know it's a Stang LOL! but you get the idea
Another thing about glazes, is that some of them are made to work great on dark colors like, black, red, etc... and others are made to work best on silver, white, yellow, light colors... there's another one called Vanilla Moose Glaze for lighter colors as I've said
Ever since I've discovered glaze, it has become part of my detailing routine. Although some glazes are intended to fill-in imperfections, it can also level some of it if used properly with a PC
It definitely complements your detailing job at the end of the day...

Just wash your car inside the garage with the door down. only evidence will be a little soapy water leaking from under the door, heh heh.

Thanks Goose!! One more question for the detail master.... Could you explain what a sealant does exactly and how to apply it??? Thanks again

Thanks Goose!! One more question for the detail master.... Could you explain what a sealant does exactly and how to apply it??? Thanks againSealants are man-made synthetic "wax"
It's designed to duplicate as close as possible the shine, and gloss of a carnauba wax
Waxes (carnuaba) are known for their warmth, and depth in their finish; sealants are known for their reflection, shine, and durability
Sealants are best applied on a nice clean surface, preferably after you've used a polish, or cleaner wax that would not contain any silicone oils, wax, or anything that will interfere with the bonding of sealant to the paint
If you ever use a polish/compound that may finish a bit "oily"; just wipe the surface down with a mix of water and isoproply alcohol at a 50-50 ratio before you lay down any sealant. This will ensure a better surface for the sealant to bond, and crosslink.
Sealants require anywhere from 8 to 24 hours to cure after you have buffed it off, some may require less curing time
What this curing term means is keeping the car away from the elements like, water, heat that would interfere with the curing process (bonding/crosslinking)
After you've had a coat of sealant, any subsequent layers will require less curing time ~4-8 hours in some cases, depending on the manufacture's instructions
Yeah, it's a little more involved than carnauba, but the trade off is in the durability
If you still like carnauba wax, but want more durability, Collinite 476S Paste Wax is a good choice, and it's a well-known product for its durability. It's detergent proof
That's the best I can describe sealant and wax to you. Hopefully that helped a little
Thanks for the compliments, I'm still a student at this :usa:

Work the product in at #3, once it's spread out on the small area you're going to be working, up the speed to about 4.5. Keep the pad flat over the surface and work on it in overlapping motions until the galze becomes translucent but not quite dry. Remove with a MF towel, and move over to the next session
When using the PC, you always want to shut it off while making contact with the surface, otherwise the pad may come flying off. Don't ask me how I know
So, let me know how it goes. It should work great for you

My car attracts pollen like a MF. I noticed when I waxed it -it has Major static electricity. I am gonna try one of those grounding straps to stop it. I was told they reALLY help. Now I just have to find out where to buy one. I use that Meguires also its really good.

You gotta love Florida.
A few weeks ago I had just finished doing the car with XMT's #2, I'm in the driveway when it starts raining ashes, I was like WTF IS THAT?????
Literally ashes falling everywhere. Talk about pissed. On impulse I was going to run to the local do it yourself car wash and get it off, but I didn't know how long it was going to be coming down. Had to wait two days, the shit just kept coming on down, (This was before I got a place with a garage)
Your in Tampa, I'm in Palm Bay, clear across the state and we both had ashes raining down on our cars? Weird. I think their burning acres instead of paying for land clearing, just a guess.
All's I can say is, now that I have a garage, I can never go back to being garageless....NEVER!...NEVER!!...NEVER!!!...MUHAHA HAHAHAAAAAA...
Not only does it protect the car from the elements, ya know normal things, like rain, snow, hail, hurricanes and condensation, it also protects from the occasional ash shower. Eliminates the constant putting on and taking off of a car cover too. It's just all pluses.

Yepp- I plan on getting my car painted soon and as soon as that happens my sister is getting all of her junk out of the garage and z28 is going in! Not only ashes, rain, elements are the problem around here. About 25 little kids live on my street and they have no respect for vehicles at all. I saw the kid next door standing on his parents car hood while his mother watched!! I saw the kid across the street run across the fron of its parents car. They throw baseballs around cars and basically dont give a shit. I have been a victim of the little bastards shooting bb guns and found 3 long scratches on my rear bumper(most likely the result of a little kids bike being rested on my car!!) No way in hell my freshly painted car is gonna be outside!! A garage is the only solution.
