Just removed the driver's door on my '97 Silverado last week. Not sure if it's the same process. All I had to do was hammer out the hinge pins (PITA) and the door came right off. Be sure to unplug any wire harnesses first if it's an electric door. The vehicle side of the hinge is welded in.
When putting the door on, use new hinge pins and bushings (bushings hammer in and out as well). You can get 2 sets (enough for 1 door) for $10 at your local auto store.

remove the sill plate-pull straight up from clips
remove the lower pillar trim (kick panel)_pull back towards door opening
disconnect door wiring connectors-behind the kick panel and feed them through the pillar
unbolt the door check link from the piller side-10mm head bolt
remove the bolt from each hinge
lift the door up off the pins
