I have an '01 WS6 w/a4, it's all stock w/50k miles. Sometimes when I do a wot acceleration the engine will bonce off the rev limier from 1 to 2, and then on the 2 to 3. A few days ago on a 2 to 3 shift it bounced off the limiter and I had to let off the trottle to let it shift. Is the trans taking a dump or can I get away with up grading the valve body? (remember its all stock)
Thanks

My car does the same thing some times. I dont know what it is but it only does it every once in a while. But then again we dont have the same tranny. I have a 97 RS with a V6.

Are you in "D" or "OD" when it happens?

It's basicly doing a complete rebuild

I'm in OD. I don't D unless I notice that the trans is hunting.

When you hit the rev limiter --say at 6000---there is a "re-enable" RPM table also that can be changed ---After fuel has been cut off by the limiter-- it allows the engine to re-enable the fuel cut-off--Generally at Stock--if the limiter is at 6000 , the re-enable RPM will be like 5950 or 5995. If it has been changed quite a bit lower, you would have to lift enough so that the rpm's can drop enough to hit the re-enable target.-----However this only happens if you are shifting the trans manually and hit the "in gear rev limit"
If you are letting it shift by itself in " drive" it should not hit the in gear rev limit--but rather it should hit the "Shift at RPM " limit and shift normally without any type of RPM control or TQ mgmt. Make sure the "in gear" rev Limit is higher than the "shift at RPM limit"---If you are getting some sort of TQ mangmt control or a stuttering rev control when letting it shift in Drive--something else could be causing this--Sometimes it can be mechanical failure but usually it revolves around the split between the shift at rpm & the shift at vehicle speed----or the split between the upshift MPH and the downshift MPH
Time for you to look at a stage 2 Performabuilt tranny. I won't waste my money on a local rebuilders ( 3 times 3 years) anymore.

i just had my trans all rebuilt with clutches, hardend shafts and everything.. and i have the same problem if i spin.. but if i hook i dont have a problem with it hitting the limiter.. but if i do spin it will just hit the limiter until i let off.. and now im considering a manual valve body..
