i wanted to see if anyone has an opinion on hollowing out the cats, instead of just removing them, will it mess up anything, will it make the car louder, how much power will be gained if any. thanks for any imput

I am looking in to headers How much power is lost cats vs off road y pipe.
Car now has lid and loudmouth only. Would also like to get a ls6 intake.
Sorry bhamta02 did not mean to hijack your thead but but I thought this woud fit in here also.

Hollowing out your cats will free up some power and make it louder, but you will have to run o2 sims or have your rear o2 sensors deleted. If not it will throw a code and suck gas. It thinks that they are not working if you don't do this. Run an ory pipe and delete the rear o2 sensors or just get the o2 sims. you can find them for about 100 or so. Look on ebay and you might find them cheaper.

I just gutted the cats on my 04 GTO...little louder (nothing major)....just tired of paying for new ones and they didnt last for shit...no problems...tuner deleted the rear sensors and tuned her up....

On an 02 you have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty by federal law on any emissions equipment.If you're vehicle is largely stock you won't gain much and you lose an exhaust system that will last a long time. If that isn't important to you or you have a heavily modified engine then changing things can help power output.The reason I say this is I've looked through cat converters and there is very little if any restriction going through them-you can see through them!Footnote to the other guy-the 01 +02 cars already have the LS6 intake on it-don't know what car you have.
