ive done a lot of checking on this and on my car i put the american racing 17x11 torque thrust 2's on the rear with 315 35 17's They are awesome!! They look so good in my opinoin. That is the biggest you can put on, you wouldnt want anything bigger in my opinion anyway. The only problem with them is you have to beat the inner fender in right where the bump stop is. Not a lot only like 1/2in or so. Other than that it worked fine. If your car is lowered you may have to roll the inner quarter but only if your dropped with say sportlines or so. Some people say they didnt have to do anything with the combo. I havent dropped mine yet but i plan on using the sportlines and ill find out soon enough.

Here is the rims that i have on my car. The front is the 17x9.5 and the rear is 17x11.

(I had the url here but it wont let me post it unless i have 10 or more posts, stupid! So just go to the american racing website and use the vehicle search they are the series 505 american racing torque thrust 2's.)

I really think these look good on our cars. If you do a google search you can find them on others peoples cars. I dont know anything about drag trim but the tires sizes will change the size of the tires obviously. The tires i have is 315 35r17. Those are about 3 in tall and very wide!!! I'd say a foot or so wide. Im not anywhere near my car so i cannot measure them.

17x11 with 315/35/zr17 torque thrust II's no bfh'ing no fender lip rolling, just added an 8mm spacer and installed longer wheel studs to accomodate. the car is lowered with an eibach pro kit as well.

I have Simmons FR18's, 10.5" out back with Michelin Pilot 295/35/18's. I don't know the exact offset on these wheels but everything fits just right. The bumpstops clear on the inside and the fender lip clears too.

The car has the "look" I was wanting and yeah, I wouldn't mind stepping up to a 305 next time but it just doesn't seem worth it when everything fits so well.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off track but yeah... a 295/35/18 setup with the right backspacing fits without any alterations.

I run a 285/40R17, no rub period..... 315/35R17 on the rear, and no rub. Though it did when my shocks were shot due to excessive body roll. I am using 17X10 (measured) Konig Flight wheels. -Tim

Here's some pics of my Torq-Thrust II's 275/40 on front, 315/35 out back. 315's are the best looking combo, esp. w/ these wheels. I'll get a better rear shot when I go home this week. Enjoy :)

raining and muddy pic,,, but I put 315/35's on stock SS 17" wheels on the back, with no rubbing... a little wider than should probably go on there,,, but it will go on, and drives great.

i run 17x11 torq thrust ll rear with 315/35/17 and 17x9 front with 245/45/17. they look excellent on the f-bodys. probaly the best looking wheels for an f-body!!

ok. I have a question. Obviously the 315's in the back look cooler and obviously handle better in a straight line. But how do they do in handling situation.

I defintely want to go with the 315's. But I don't want to sacrafice my driveability or even having the ability to go into a turn really hard when I'm trying to have some fun.

IT shouLD MAKE YOUR REAR END PLANT MORE. ITS JUST PUTTING MORE RUBBER DOWN TO THE GROUND WHICH WILL MAKE I HANDLE BETTER UNTIL YOU GET TOO WIDE THEN ITS JUST TO MUCH RESISTANCE. I WOULDNT GO OVER 315 SORRY FOR CAPS IM AT WORK AND CANT TURN IT OFF

Anyone ever tried 295/40/17s on stock SS wheels?

I might try 295's next but they'd next a little bit taller that the stock 275/40s...

the 315's on the stock SS wheels do not make contact with the ground all the way across the contact patch because the wheel is too narrow...

I noticed today after driving in the wet parking lot at work, the edge of the tread was dry about 1/2 inch in.

still look sweet, but i have no more rubber making contact than if i was running the 275's so i am just wasting hp spinning all this extra rubber...

GatorSS
01-04-2006, 12:35 PM
Yes, the 295s would have 8mm taller sidewalls (16mm taller tire) than the stock 275s. That should still leave enough room to avoid rubbing on the fronts when turning. I'll see soon when I put the 295s on all four.

Regarding your 315s on the rear, after the tread wears some, you'll have more of the tire width contacting the ground so it's not a total waste.

Does anyone even make a 295/40/17??? I had 285/40/17 BFG KDWSs on 17x9.5 TTIIs and they looked great with no rub.

I have been looking, but have not seen any 295s.
How was the straight line traction with the 285s? I have been looking at them as the alternative.

At the time, the car was a bone stock daily driver for my, then, wife. They were the BFG KDWS tires (an all-weather tire) so they were fine for her. After the divorce (back in July) the car became my toy and they were not enough tire for me. Put on the 275/40/17 Nitto Drag Radials yesterday and I am already wishing that I went with the 315s, but didn't want to buy new rims to fit them on yet. I was more impressed when I replaced the original tires on my 2003 Hemi Ram with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s (265/70/17s)than I am with the Nittos so far.

It was actually alot easier than I originally thought. I had 18x10.5 Zo6 rims on it before and they apparently wore a perfect spot for the 19's. I hammered alittle but no problems.

anyone ever been in a heavy downpour with somthing bigger than a 275...the wider the contact patch the less weight of the tire on the road the easier it is to hydroplane...ive got potenza RE730 275/40/ZR17 out back they are a 96W tire...i put 235/40/ZR17 on the front

Not much of a selection, so I doubt I'll get either of these non-warranteed tires. Thus, I guess I'll stick with the 285s.

Since those are shaved race tires, I doubt that you would get very many miles out of them...

I had 255-35-20 on 20 x 8.5 rims---only problem i had was i had to get adjustable panhard rod to center rear axle because back left scraped a little from the eibach springs dropping car 1 1/4" the falken z speed rated tires and wheels are only 2 months old and have around 300 miles on them and will probably be fro sale beacause i don't think i can get them on my gto---we'll seee

TTII's.
275/40/17 up front
315/35/17 out back

No rub unless the car is on jackstands and the rear has no load. Only when working on it.
Soon to have 15" wheels on the back for the track. :yup:
I do believe suspension plays a big role in how wheels fit.
I have some very minor rubbing before I installed my LCA's and LCA relocation brackets.

Now...Eibach ProKit and adj. panhard bar keep the rear center and the stance nice!

I've got the following:

up front...275/40ZR-17 Nittos on 17x9.5 Motorsport Z06 wheels

in back....285/35ZR-18 Nittos on 18x10.5 Motorsport Z06 wheels

My car is lowered in Eibach Pro-kit. So, I've had to curl in the rear fenders a bit for clearance, which solved all my rubbing issues.
