last night i lined up with an evo,
from a dig we took off *what a rush haha* he took me by a car length. i thought he would jump me off the line alot harder then he did, im sure it was the driving on his part. it was a hot race, wish i had video for yall!!
i did get beat, but it was fun as sh*t so i had to post :)

He must have had some decent mods if he kept pulling after the launch. Usually they will get the jump (if the guy can drive of course) and then you will reel them in like they're going backwards. 300WHP V8 >>> 235WHP 4 banger, stock for stock.
Get a couple mods and kick his ass next time ;)

the new evos have 285whp from what i read. i raced one from a 20 mph roll and it was a good race but he pulled me by about 3/4 car. that was when i was moddless.

Hell no. Not even close. The VIII's dyno'd around 235WHP, the 9's dyn0 250WHP. Highest I've ever heard of was 260WHP, and those numbers were probably fidged anyway.
If you got pulled by an Evo from a roll he was definitely modded. Stock for stock an LS1 will destroy any Evo from a roll.

Um...not really, just proving a point. If you'd rather from now on I use someone elses car to prove my points I can do that, but the evo doesnt die up top, it only does that on stock cams...just about every dynograph I've seen of a car with atleast 272 cams (hks or comparable) keeps rising to redline.

i don't see a problem with it. a statement was made. it was countered with a pretty good dyno sheet showing it not running out of breath on the top end. don't know what defines top end, but to me 6500 rpms is pretty much top end for a LS1 car as well.

Anyhow, the dyno graph proves nothing. Why?? Because his car is heavily modded, with well over a few thousand dollars in modifications. With enough mods you can make any car fast. And an LS1 with a few thousand dollars in mods will be making a hell of a lot more power than 420WHP and 373lb/ft of torque. Plus it will actually be driveable on the street.
Gotta love the torque curve, 145ft/lbs at 3000RPM :Pow:
Same with the power curve. Less than 100HP below 3300RPM. Thats why I'll never own a 4 cylinder "performance" car.

He doesn't just have cams.
He has a few thousand dollars in mods, including full bolt ons, exhaust, increased boost, meth injection, tune, ect.
Look at his powerband, overall its garbage.
A stock Evo with just cams obviously isn't going to have the same dyno chart as him. Not even close, especially power wise.

are you going to put a cam in your car without adding the bolt ons???
(side note: i did put a cam in a friend's car without headers TR cheaTR cam just for stock manifolds)

I said overall as in the whole thing - and overall, it is garbage. Unless its a track only car, I couldn't care less about where you have to keep the RPM's to make power. Its obviously a street car though, and making those kind of pathetic HP/TQ numbers below about 3300RPM is a joke.

our cars don't make alot of power just driving around either. part throttle, under 3000 rpms, isn't going to be make 300 ft-lbs of torque. it will make more than his, but not by much.

I don't have a full built up motor, it's a stock motor with 60,000 miles on it, reguardless of what you MEANT to say, you didnt say it, and after you were proved wrong you attempt this.
I'll show you a minor bolt on dyno sheet now that a "all built up" motor (lol) isn't good enough.

How have I been embarassed? I pulled a different dyno sheet because you said that the other one was a too heavily modified car. You're right that it doesnt compare to a v8 in terms of usable powerband, but I never claimed that it did. You claimed that 4 cylinder motors run out of breath on the top end, and I showed proof how they do not. So how am I embarassed again?

The 2003-2004's dyno 225-230whp, that is correct. THe 2005s dyno up to 250whp (like mine did). Most 2006 (9s) are doing 260-270whp. There have been tons of 270whp stock 9s.

Under 3k RPMS, hes making ~145lb-ft torque. Ok, is that enough to get him from point a to b? Seriously, is less than that enough to pull the heavy car to Wal-mart? (I am really asking cuz then Ill take a side) If the car can move, then Id say driveability is fine.
If he got to a light and figured he was going to race on the street, I doubt hell launch at 3k rpms, but launch at a higher rpm. Possibly not 6500 cuz of possible wheel spin, but higher than 3k.
So!
You got a car that can be tame on the street when it wants to and fast on the street when it wants to.
If my car is running 12s, gets decent mileage, is a daily driver, but has 90lbs of torque at 2000rpms, I couldnt see why Id care.

wesman - is an avid domestic car person. has a hatred for an import car. looks for any way possible to discredit the car.
4tun8 - is an avid import car person. sees a need to defend the import when the need arises.
i see nothing wrong with either peron at that juncture. it's when the personal attracks come out that i step in.
you know, i used to hate imports, no matter what they did. i got over it and came up with this analagy:
there are two types of performance car people. racers and ricers. regardless of them being domestic or import.
racer = someone who takes their car and modify it to run quicker.
ricer = someone who buys every little knick knack on the market, puts it on their car and 'thinks' it'll outrun everyone on the road.
i know they are spelled very closely to one another.
i consider 4tun8 and stonesrt4 to be racers. they didn't run off and put 22" wheels and 10ft tall wings on their car and come here spouting how they can beat ls1 cars.

EVO's are nice rides with good technology. But, we love muscle cars here. Muscle car sound, looks, and attitude. So naturally we are gonna bash on imports. It is all in jest for me. Others might take it seriously.
Personally, I think EE and 4tun8 have quick and nice rides. The sound is a turnoff, and the 4 cylinder unfortunately, but still nice none the less.
If these guys had went the LS1 way, they would prolly have low 11 second cars that most of us would drool after.

I would end up doing something stupid with an LS1 car haha, I have connections with Turbo people....so I'd probably do twins and meth injection, speed density, and a host of traction mods.
I'm running 11s now on the 4 banger, if I'm going with double the cylinders I wouldn't be happy unless it was single digits haha.

Seriously though, what do you mean an 02 dump? You have an exhaust cutout after the 02 sensor or sumthin'?
It releases the exhaust from the turbo's wastegate to the atmosphere. Normally, the wastegate exhaust is rerouted into the system.

Yes and the EVO shown has a huge turbo. The stock turbo and even 20G upgrades are extremely fun to drive and have awesome turbo response. Its whats kept me from upgrading the turbo, is the response and fun to drive factor the car has with the stock turbo.

well rya go to think, I drive a lightning with 4.10 gears as my DD. So it better have some good low end to compete with fun to drive :). My buddies STI with more power and being faster than my L doesnt, have near the low end.

It is, but I also like to rip turns sideways and do crazy shit. The only other car I could do that in is the Z06 and even then, it wasnt as fun.
All comes down to preference.

lol im just teasing man....after previously owning an rsx-s before my current car and an ls1 BEFORE the rsx i couldnt imagine it being more fun to ME ...i can imagine it being more fun to others though.....i just LOVE the v8 rumble and tourqe ..hearing my tires fighting for grip thru 1st and second gear usualy losing it by 3k in first and gettin it back near the top of first as my tires get hot...then shifting to second as my rear end slides all over and the tires are fighting for grip again.......dunno its just to much fun.........i WISH i could afford an evo as a second car though.....DD as well as my winter ride with blizzaks at all 4 corners...id be a maniac in the snow in one of those.... i KNOW an rsx isnt anywhere near an evo....it still made me miss a v8 every day i owned it though

No, I think that kind of stuff is dumb. I just like driving it hard through exit turns and things like that. You can call it "spirited driving" I guess. I took my buddy with me who has the 02 SS H/C and he wanted to get an EVO afterwards, but he did say he loved his V8 still :beer: If I could buy another car right now, it would be a Z06 or a Camaro SS and Id put a 408 in it and be done!

Even on this board I'm not afraid to admit that I like Evo's and Sti's. I wouldn't mind having one as a DD. Don't think that's possible right now though since I'm in the finishing stages of doing what he mentioned above.

Theyre just so different and fun in their own ways. Id love to have a huge displacement V8 with ridiculous torque and that V8 rumble, but I also want my EVO still.. Someday!

I just saw you post in saying youre only stock but youd race, i didnt know that it was part of a previous conversation. No modded EVO should call out a stock LS1, I agree completely.
I was reluctant to race a guy on this board bc he told me he only had intake/exhaust but he wanted to do it, turned out to be real cool guy and he comes down to my area to race now. Turned out to be a good thing.

I think Wesman really isnt explaining very well what he is trying to say. A car like that Evo with tons of top end power and nothing down low really isnt a fun car to drive, to me and I think to Wesman to. With the evo modfied like that, you have to go WOT and bring the boost up to do anything with it. With cars that make more lowend torque with either engine power or gears in the rear end, you can have fun all day long at half throttle lighting the tires up, dicking around, etc etc, without ever having to do up to 6k+. If you do not build boost in 4 cylinder cars, they dont go anywhere.
That I think is why he is saying its not a usuable power band for a street car. For a track car, who cares about low end, you are at your upper power band the entire length of the track.

I'm glad you guys took what I am trying to say in context, thats exactly what I'm talking about.
Obviously Evos and STIs are "driveable". I'm not trying to say that they aren't. Hell, a 55HP Geo Metro is "driveable". But there is just no comparison to the powerband of a V8, regardless of what power adders or mods you have. Nothing like hammering the gas at any RPM and having it shove you back in the seat with torque and then pull strongly to redline. And nothing beats the sound of a V8 Muscle car, either. I could care less about open wastegates and such, that may sound kind of cool the first few times, but its nothing that impressive IMO.
I've driven a lot of cars...and like blackzlt1 said, nothing beats a bolt on LS or LT with an M6 and 4.10's for pure driving fun. No "waiting for boost", no gutless low end, no farting sounds, no bull. Just pure, unadultered raw Horsepower and torque with a mean muscle car sound. And thats what I'm a fan of.

Don't get your hopes up, he won't. He didn't have much to say about running me, which I don't understand being that 500 hp, whether you are RWD, AWD, etc. is nothing to be taken lightly. There are cars down around me and then some that would be up for a race.

I can atest for one thing Wesman keeps saying..the car looks like shit. It really does. It doesnt look masculine at all and the only personality it has reminds me of the black fag on Revenge of the Nerds.
Power means nothing compared to looks. For instance, I think the GTOs are terrible. Regardless of its power, I wont buy one for that price cuz of its looks alone.

Most people in this thread wouldn't know piston slap if they heard it, and couldn't tell the difference between valvetrain noise and an exhaust leak (or most especially piston slap vs valvetrain).

It is not at all uncommon to see folks with a different car than the one a forum is built around frequenting the site. However, what is unusual is those folks coming into that different site and posting "kills" of cars totally unrelated to anything but themselves.
That seems to be a trend around here lately. Mostly by the Evo crowd. No big deal - nobody is forcing anyone else to read what they post, and it probably makes them feel better.
