12 bolt gain?

i was wanting to know if anyone gained et from a 12 bolt install. i know they are heavier and have more internal drag, but since it is heavier in the rear does it get more traction? right now i have 2.73 in the 10 bolt and was just thinking about a 3.73 swap , my et is 12.9 @109 with headers and air lid, 1.998 60, and that is whats killin my time, i only have a 2000 stall and will probably never go bigger just gears, shoul i save $1500 and do a gear and carrier swap

A beefier rear end will drain more power, but the added weight above the rear wheels will aid traction. So it might even out, ON THE STRIP.

On the street, during roll races, the added weight and power drain will prolly only hurt, not help.

hmm apparently there is nothing to gain from a 10 bolt then by that statement. I guess being able to run the stickiest tires you can find as well as being able to beat on it constantly without breaking it means nothing. The benefits far outweigh anything.

I guess there is something really wrong with buying something that far surpasses the strength and reliability of the stock unit because you may lose around 15 horses..

Reliability is what you are buying for your 3K, with the loss of cash and horsepower.

I heard that I should expect a loss of 10 rwhp, which is prolly 15-20 horses.

remember horsepower is measured on a dyno with stupid little rollers that dont really allow you to break traction so you can run some crap ass tires and dyno the same or more than a car that will actually make much better use of that power by running a good sticky tire that would otherwise snap a stock 10 bolt rear rather than a bunch of tire spinning

True. With the stock tires and rims she put down 415 rwhp, but with the bigger rims and tires, it dropped to 404 whp. BUT IT HOOKED. Now with the S60, it will prolly drop to 395 rwhp.

But, she will make use of ALL the ponies, reliably.

Gains are worth it.

I put a Moser 9" in mine. Probably robbed 2% of my 'too the wheels' power. Didn't take anything away from the flywheel.

Gained 6-7 tenths once I figured out how to hook it.

Yeah, it might be heavier and more drag, but when you can launch at 6000rpm instead of 2200rpm, it's definitely going to make you faster. No doubt about it.

If you swap from 10-bolt to 12-bolt and install 4.11 gears, you will definately notice a quicker acceleration due to the mechanical advantage, especially since the factory ratio is 2.73.

what about cruising RPMs. Won't the rpms be really high on the highway? Let's hear from someone running 4.11s or 4.10s. Are the RPMs real high at say70-80mph?

The RPMs are higher at 70-80 with 4.11 gears, but not crazy high. I think the difference between the 3.42 gears and the 4.11 gears are about 600-700 RPM at 80mph.

I don't see that anybody is specifying auto or manual, although I may be missing it. My M6 with 4.10 gears hits like 2100rpm at 75mph or so. It's really nice. I wouldn't have the M6 without a 4.10 gear.

if you are a A4 then 373s are the way to go, awesome track gear and good cruising gear. Same can be said about 410s in a M6
