I did my first ring and pinion install this past week along with a new Eaton Posi diff. I replaced my factory 3.42's with Richmond 3.73 in my 99 camaro ss 6spd.

I was unsure of how the install would go anticipated I would have to take the carrier out several times until I got the shims correct on each side. I ended up using the stock shims that were in place with the zexel-torsen diff, and matching the pinion shim thickness from the stock gear with a new shim from the install kit. Threw on some marking paint and gave it a spin to check the markings, it was go to go the first time in! With backlash reading of .006. I was happy as hell.

Let me tell you there is def. a noticable difference with the new ratio, better yet the EATON posi unit is amazing, any one with the zexel factory carrier, get rid of that junk and get an eaton. Never did my car go soo straight while getting wheel spin in 1st and second. Before the back end would always start drifting to the right side, now I dont realize the wheels are spinning half the time cause they spin at the exact same rate and the car goes perfectly straight, it's awesome.

So, you did it the hard way with the rear in the car. Good job! That ain't easy!

:nana: me and a friend of mine put 4:10s in my 99 SS and it went fairly easy.

Thank you, it was challenging but turned out to be a great accomplishment.
