What do you guys think of the 3/S? Personally the '93 Stealth is my favorite car (after that would be the '02 T/A WS6).
Basic Specs:
300-320 @6000RPM HP
307-315 @2500RPM Torque
3.0L DOHC Twin Turbo V6
~ 3,800 lbs
AWD

They are both OK..... But also 3000GT and Stealth have a real bad AWD system... and the engine needs to be upgraded first before more boost... it isn't a Skyline or Supra... Go with the T/A or Camaro and just boost that... you can get more and more hp from a V8 than a V6!

Yea I know you can get more power from a V8, but I like to be different! :) Ray Pampena bored out the 6G72 engine from the 3/S' to 3.7L and he might be working on a 4.5L 6G74 (normally it's a 3.5L.) The engines are $9K I believe. As for upgrading... that's why we have 3SX, and Dynamic Racing! :) Can't wait to get my '93 RT/TT and send it to 3SX :)

My second car will be a '00-'02 Trans Am with a LS7 engine swap, and then I'll send it somewhere to get a suspension/handling upgrade.

EDIT: I can't stand the Skyline, or the Supra. IMO they are both way over-hyped.

Wow you like dreaming. T/A with LS7 swap then "send it somewhere" for suspension? That's a hell of a plan but relize the motor will cost about as much as the car.
I use to be a fan of the 3000 but they were not very well made cars...interior and drivetrain expecially. Unlike the Skyline or the Supra which are what the 3000 and Stealth wish they were. I won't argue with you there. It is just that I had a few friends who's 3000 interior literally fell to pieces. Maybe they didn't take the best care of them but still.

Is the Supra engine anything like the 6G72? I ask because both the N/A Supra and Stealth make about the same HP, and the turbo ones make about the same HP too...?

Supra's are overhyped. Some make 1200+ HP and can't even break into the 9s.... If you don't call that overhyped, then I don't know what is? I never said that the 3/S' were anything special I just like them a lot! :yup: I know that the 3/S' are heavy as hell, and can break easier than they should, but that's something that I'll have to put up with.

The Stealth RT/Turbo and the 3000GT VR-4s weigh about 3,800 lbs. The N/A ones weigh about 3,000....

the 2jz supra engine is nothing like that piece of shit under the vr-4 hood. first of all the supra is an inline six with two cams, mounted longitudal for the rear wheel drive platform (the way things should be which is why im not too mad at toyota). that hunk of shit mitsu is a 4 cam v6, twin turbo transversely mounted which means that when you look under the hood you:
1. throw up blood
2. wonder how anyone but a jap/german collective effort could have squeezed all that shit sideways ontop of a weak transaxle, which you will NEVER see.
3.throw up again
4.ask yourself how YOU are going to work on it, how you can fix the boost leak from the shitty internal wastegates of the 13gs and the failing transfer case when you somehow muster up 16 psi on a stock and shitty fuel pump then drop the clutch and break it plus the drive shaft all while simoultaneously hitting fuel cut without much effort.....
do yourself a favor, stay away, FAR AWAY........

Hey man I was gonna add in how the 3000GT is not a good car and how Diamond Start Motors was a crappy alliance between Mitsu and DC, but you summed it up very nicely :cheers:

just lookin out for ya man, but if thats you then go for it. just take it for what it is....old and complicated. and be weary of your wallet because it doesnt take much to make a twin turbo car fast perse, it does however take alot of cash to make them reliable and daily drivalble. they, like many other good intentioned cars are plagued with problems. like the lt1 and its ignition system. everything can have problems, but some havent withstood the test of time. it is alot wiser to choose a less problematic platform to start with like a newer and non dsm automobile if you want to stick with imports. its the same as deciding whether to save money on an lt1 or spend the extra to get the ls1......
i think we all know the logical answer to that.....

The 3/S trans is actually pretty strong, the weakness comes from the transfer case. IIRC Mitsu themselves gave instruction to use the incorrect viscosity trans fluid..which lead to the fragging of many early Getrags. With the new billet transfer cases (that have yet to be broken) the problem is solved.

Our cars come with 9b's stock, not 13g's; he only 3000gt's that came with 13g turbos stock were the Eurospecs.

Fuel cut at 1 bar :hmm:..... Interesting I'll have to ask about that since I've never heard of that or the amazing exploding drive shafts before :)

For all of the wisdom that you saw fit to bestow upon both the kid and the forum you forgot one thing. The 3/s is NOT a dsm. It makes me wonder if said personal experience stems from a brief jaunt on Edmunds.com or other internet forum goers that can't tell the difference between my VR4 and an Eclipse GSX :)

not sure where you get info but they werent diff... dsms in japan had the 6 bolt "red top" engines with the dual runner intakes and butterfly valve actuators. thats called the 4g63. the 6g72 has stock 13g turbos and where the fuck did you pull euro spec from.

oh yeah my camaro has the euro spec ls1 with the euro spec 6 speed.... im the only one who has had a euro spec chevy and a euro spec dsm too....

Also. unless you bothered to weld a new flange onto your DSM, you couldn't have possibly bolted a 13g to a TD05 manifold. 13g=TD04 16g=TD05. So far you've managed only to spew out bullshit and make yourself look like a tool. Keep it up.

Well the 3/s comes with TDo4 turbos stock and the TDo5 option only became more prevailent, hence my confusion. This thread is about the 3/S not the teenie bopper machine you were pushing oh so long ago. Sorry for my confusion, for that I apologize. Maybe you need to learn how to string a sentence together properly before coming on to the internet. Such tragedies and misunderstandings could and would then be avoided.

Oh and no I actually don't drive a galant VR4. Some people here know what I drive, and yea it's not stock :)

You can't possibly bolt any TD04 up to any TD05 flange. It doesn't matter if it was a 14b/16g. Also, if you'd be so kind to take a look down at your keyboard, you'll notice just how far away the 'd' and the 't' key are, making your claim that 'retart' was a typo seem fishy. Now stop posting bullshit.

i didnt own a vr4 did i? my friend did. he paid way more than it was worth and quickly matched its price in repair costs. i know what i know. and how do i not know the difference between td04 and td05. did i not have a 16g. did it not say tdo5h on the compressor housing? did the 13g i have not say td04e on the compressor housing. and who cares about the stock turbos on a vr4. most of those 9bs are in a junk yard because people opted for a 13g. and if the 13g was an option you could get, that would make it a factory component and would fall into the stock category. i suppose i could get pics of my old set up and my buddies vr4 with 13gs and then twin evo 8 turbos with an open hks 3 in dp. i guess i could get a pic of my other friends 91 talon with a jap red top swatch and a garret ball bearing turbo (sorry cant remember the exact name, crucify me if it makes you feel like you have a sack) that put down 445 awhp but suffered a severe boost leak, then had a failing transfer case. ran a thermal exhaust and bent the valves, blew a head gasket, all after a month. thats a $4k swap, for a month of enjoyment??? man, money well spent....

if you have a gsx like i did, then all you have to worry about is the exhaust side of the turbo matching to the header. but thats with any car. turbos can be put on any car, and using any turbo. it would take some customizing but it could be done. so you make no sense to me.. but thats nothing new.

i claim nothing. i put a td04e 13g under a pacesetter header and bolted it up. no claims just facts....

i assume you mean on a stock manifold. well here is alittle fact, not a claim... i unbolted that 13g from a ported 2g exhaust manifold when i picked it up from a friend in Troy, MO. but i suppose since we both do our own work instead of looking up useless facts on google that we dont know as much as you do.

i claim nothing. i put a td04e 13g under a pacesetter header and bolted it up. no claims just facts....

i assume you mean on a stock manifold. well here is alittle fact, not a claim... i unbolted that 13g from a ported 2g exhaust manifold when i picked it up from a friend in Troy, MO. but i suppose since we both do our own work instead of looking up useless facts on google that we dont know as much as you do.

the 2jz supra engine is nothing like that piece of shit under the vr-4 hood. first of all the supra is an inline six with two cams, mounted longitudal for the rear wheel drive platform (the way things should be which is why im not too mad at toyota). that hunk of shit mitsu is a 4 cam v6, twin turbo transversely mounted which means that when you look under the hood you:
1. throw up blood
2. wonder how anyone but a jap/german collective effort could have squeezed all that shit sideways ontop of a weak transaxle, which you will NEVER see.
3.throw up again
4.ask yourself how YOU are going to work on it, how you can fix the boost leak from the shitty internal wastegates of the 13gs and the failing transfer case when you somehow muster up 16 psi on a stock and shitty fuel pump then drop the clutch and break it plus the drive shaft all while simoultaneously hitting fuel cut without much effort.....

Interestingly enough, the 3/S motor provides 300ish ft/tq at 2500 RPM. Not exactly the frame twisting power of a big block, but I'd say thats ample down low power yes?
