If you want to see what RPM you'll be at plug 3.73 into the calculator at www.f-body.org/gears/ 2K at 80 looks like 2.73.

its not that hard to do yourself, but if you had a shop do it then I wouldnt see it being more than 400$ installed

parts and install. depends on the gears you get and the shop though. 400 is on the high end of the scale

373 here. It still isnt too bad with the stock overdrive, definately lost some mpg though.
And I suggest getting Motive brand gears, not motive performance. They are fairly quiet.

I am almost positive that is what my Moser came with and it doesnt make a peep. I believe they had just switched over from US Gears because the richmonds were quieter but you may wanna do a search on other peoples experiences because I am not 100% on which gears I have.

actually if you go to Exoticperformanceplus.com I would give Bob a call and talk to him about it. That is who I ordered my Moser from and he was REALLY helpful and he also recommends 373s in all the Moser 12 bolts that he sells to A4 owners.

Im thinking about changing my gers from 323 to 373 plus adding a Vigalnti 3200 stall does setup sound ok for a stock 10 olt ? 2001 SS A4,headers, K&N SLP Lid
jmhvenom
03-15-2007, 01:55 PM
yea, sounds like a good setup. I did the same thing, cept I got a Vig 4200... pretty much the same mods... Burns the tires pretty good, a new TC wakes up an automatic!
Silver Streak
03-15-2007, 02:43 PM
Thats a slightly lower setup than mine.. but if its a daily driver you'll like it... you'll just use up some more gas as you'll be around 2 grand at 60 instead of the usual 1600.

Thanks for the info but im thinking about how well the stock 10 bolt will hold up at the stip (13sec) best time so far, trying for 12vs,or should i forget it and go with a mosser 12 bolt?
Silver Streak
03-15-2007, 02:59 PM
I'm running 12.2s consistently.. with the autos.. those 10 bolts are pretty strong.. We have a guy with an auto running N20 mid 10 sec times and JUST finally blew it up.. but I think it was on purpose as he had a 12 bolt ready... If you have the money to blow.. you can go ahead and do it... but the 10 bolt should last you quite a while.

So by changing the gears and 3200 stall will this alone get me in the 12vs or do i need a big cam and or Nos?
Silver Streak
03-15-2007, 03:18 PM
I dont have a cam... all my mods are in my sig.... was running 12.8 on street tires from just the lid, headers and true duals.... then dropped from there.. :D

Personally I'm going to stay away from N2O.. as there are too many potential problems with it.. and plus all the money spent "filling the bottle" can be better spent on other parts. N/A sounds a LOT better to me than FI or N2O.

well since I went from 2.73 to 3.73 I lost 4 mpg highway (~22 mpg). My city is the same after the swap, ~18mpg.
Gears are a cheap way to give that low end seat of the pants torque feeling. Well cheap until you blow the 10 bolt up and need a new rear!
Just make sure you get the thick gear and not the thin with spacer.

Well, someone correct me if I am wrong, but going to 3.73 or higher (which really is a lower ratio I believe) the gears just have to get smaller...

a nitrous car making 500rwhp is going to be ALOT more streetable than a N/A car with 500rwhp so its all a matter of personal preferance and goals for the car.

Very true. But sometimes the pride of knowing you built the car to a specific HP without the aid of a power adder would be nice.. which is what I want. Possibly down the road when I am at that point, I MIGHT add something to give it the extra kick... we'll see.

in my opinion 500 hp is 500 hp, doesnt really matter to me how i win a race, but kitt vskarr is right, SATISFACTION. but who wouldnt want to spend 1/4 of the cost for n20 then n/a. just my 2cents

I just went from 2.73's to 3.73's.was like night and day.. 10 bolts are weak but if they are setup right they will take a good bit of abuse..A high percentage of the people who break rearends is due to the way it was setup.

I know what your saying though and thats why now I am going for my heads/cam setup.

When You Went To The 373s Did Your Freeway Acceleration Get Better Or Worse?
jmhvenom
03-20-2007, 10:21 AM
better... it will always help accel until you get into more of a top end speed like 130+ I would say

Yeah no complaints here. Like ^ said, the MPH loss will not come into play until about 30 mph over what I will ever drive. IMO 373 is best gear for an A4 daily driver. Now if you are doing 80% of your driving on highway, might want to use 323 or 273, but for my 80% city, the gears kept the mpg the same as the 273's were.

i run 3.73 in mine and i get a 22 hwy and 15 city. my computer says my average is usually between 19.5 and 20.8 but 90% of my driving is hwy. the 3.73 is a nice gear package to have when you wanna hand someone their arse.

So it sounds like everyone is on board with the 3.73s ? I just added SFCs and some Nitto 555DRs and want some gears just didnt know weather to go with the 3.42s or the 3.73s...A4

If you're gonna spend the money.. you might as well make a decent jump... the 342s will be better.. but not as fast as the 373s....

I have been reading around but what do you guys think is the best set up to get, meaning no wine, longevity stuff like that, I was looking at the Richmond 3.73 gears, and should I get the instalation kit as well ?

The LS1 power band starts @ 3K, and with 3.73's @ 80 MPH, you are sitting just out of it, with 3.23's you will experience a dead spot upon exeleration.
I have 3.73's coupled to a Y3000 2.0 STR stall, the gears coupled to the stall will make an entirely different driving experience. I also replaced my POS stock flexplate with a TCI SF29 race grade unit. You will need longer bolts to attach the converter.
If I had the stall to do over, I would have gone with a 3600.
