This is an article is from June, 2001. They test a factory 01"SS" and run it into the 12's.
The first 2 pages are a little blurry, but the rest of the article is whats important.

Yeah, I know that. I posted it cause I wanted some people who aren't knowledable of the capability of the LS1 to see proof.
I found it to be interesting!

It is a good read.
I just hope it doesn't get new owners hopes up. Most of us won't be able to get a stock car in the 12's.

Sorry, everyone! I'll never post stupid old stuff again. You don't see many tests like this where they run it into the 12's!

Thanks for the article 9t8Z28...I know the stock SS was capable of breaking the 13 sec barrier, but this article backs me up when speaking to my friends or whoever stops to talk about my 02 SS...that I'm not full of @#$%...thanks :drivin:

2 of my friends doubt these cars capabilitys all of the time, even though they have Mustangs that seem to never run.

GMHTP did a Drag Test on a `99 Z and ran a 12.89 @ 109mph
It helps to be close to sea level and have Evan Smith as the Driver.
That SS was done at the same Track with the same Driver 2 years later.
Like said above OLD NEWS.

It may be old news to you, but it isn't to everyone. You see questions all the time of members asking what do theses cars run and what are they capable of. If its old news, then don't read it and don't reply. I didn't take a good amount of my time to scan the book pics and post them, so that you could come on here and tell me its OLD NEWS.

You will summarize and you will like it. :rl:
Dont get flustered about people saying "old news." Thank you for putting up another thread on this. In a time when you tell someone what our cars could run, its nice to have a thread to look up upon the Search feature. Sure there may be more than one, but Ill bet theyre hard to find.
Since I am at work I cant see the articles...was the color of the camaro red? I think I remember reading about a camaro running 12s in a Mustang & Other Fast Fords magazine...

Thanx. I find it hard to find old magazine articles too.
Yes, it was red, but this was an article done in 2001 and reposted in 2005 by
GM High Tech Performance. They even thought it was a good idea to repost it. For me, I had just started getting GM H. T. P. in 2005, so it one reason that persuaded that I had to have an LS1 f-body!
I still pick up 1985 Motor Trend's from the basement and read them. It's funny to see how much technology and the standards have changed.

Shit, someone else on here posted up a magazine article on the 02 ss vs. 01 cobra. Thats considered "old news," but I loved reading it and if youve read the thread, you can see me asking all sorts of questions about it.
Some old articles are new to us un-informed peeps. :)

Don't warm a street tire, and stay outta the water box on street tires. :yup:

In my opinion I think its fine to warm up street tires just not to much.. just gettem a lil hot... Always aviod the water when you have street tires.. I seen Smitty do it in a 05 GT and ran a 13.3 on streets.. :Poke: you don't need cheater shoes to dip in the 12's.. tho it does help..

Warming a street tire makes them slicker.
Bark them to clean them off, nothing more.

well i would personally like to thank the guy who posted this up. it may be "old news" to some of you ls1 vets but i've had my car for a little over a year and have only been on the various message boards for several months. this was the first time i've seen or heard about this article. i freaking loved every minute of it and read every word. it put a big smile on my face everytime he mentioned the throngs of mustang guys shitting their pants at the camaro's et. so thank you 9t8z28!
ps. in the article they mentioned they would be doing a similar test of a stock 02 ss in a later issue. you wouldn't happen to have that one laying around would you?

Your welcome. I don't think they did another test on an 02'. GM H.T.P. sometimes never keeps their word on test and project they say they will do.
Yeah, I like how they described how jelous the Mustangs guys got when the Camaro dipped into the 12's.
