Headers, LS6 intake, port the TB, lid and subframes. Youll have no problem beating him if u can drive.

i paid 325 for my ls6... between 300-400 would be average.. but make sure you check the part number! especially if you buy on ebay because alot of guys will say its an ls6 but its really an ls2...which isnt anything like the ls6... dont buy unless you actually see the part num on the manifold... you can go to a gm site to get the part numbers.

I have a lightly modded 01 Formula(Lid/Filter w/Free Mods, ported TB, TB Spacer, Bumpstop Mod, Tune, No Cats, ORY, LM1 Exhaust and 4.10s), and ran(before putting in 4.10gears) a 06 Mustang GT with CAI, Exhaust and Tune, and beat him by 4/10ths 3 times consecutively, so yes if you are near stock or stock running a stock or near stock 05+ Stang GT, it comes down to who is the better driver. because he even came up to me after the runs and was asking about mine as i was about his, and he said it was his first stick shift car and that he was still getting a feel for it.

You shouldn't have any problem as long as you don't make any severe driving errors. They're low 14-second cars mostly.

i raced one at the track bout a month ago. im all stock a4 and he had catback, intake, tune, and manual. he ran a 12.9 and i ran a 13.3. so i think they have potential but i still like my ss

I don't know what you've seen...but the 05+ Mustang GT's sure as hell aren't mid 14 second cars. Best I've heard of is 13.5, with a good driver and good conditions. Most stock ones will run anywhere from 13.6-13.9, depending on transmission, driver skill, track conditions, ect.
Put it this way:
M5 05 GT > Auto LS1
M5 05 GT < M6 LS1

The 05's are definately faster than the pre 05's and it will give the LS1 more of a challenge and even win given the right conditions. The low end on those mustangs is very good and they will get you on the take off, but don't forget about our top end  If it's a short race, the mustang will take it, if it's a longer race, the LS1 will take it!
Oh yeah, I took my first 05 GT last week on the way to work. I took him from a roll

I couldn't agree more with you wesman.. I race my buddy in my "MARO" 02 and i beat him no problem.. We went to the track last week.. his best time was 13.7... They can run anywhere from a 13.5 to a high 13.9.. for a good driver.. This race is all up to the DRIVER.. you have an ls1.. but its a 99" so you got a ls1 intake not the ls6... It should be a good race.. :firedevil:

Most LS1's are at least lightly modded by now. That has a lot to do with a lot of S197 kills.

ya know? just gotta know how far to push the pedal

This depends on several things.
Does it have a stall?? If so, what speed?
What tires? New? Old?
What said tires can take without spinning is where you should rev to.

There is a rookie driver with his 2006 GT that went "13.43 @ 102.38mph with 1.95 60' stock" in Illinois.
I know for a fact the kid hadn't dragged any car before. I think it was the second time at the track for him with that car.

naw this was a dvd that my friend got from his mustang mag.. they did it completey stock when they did the 1/4 mile.. And I think the car was an auto but not to sure if it was.. also the car had about 2000 miles on it so i guess the tires should be new if not in good condition..

I think what he saying is that if you put an LS-6 intake on 98-00 then you would have the advantage.. Cuz of the bigger cam.. get about 10-15 hp out of it..

No.
The difference in the cams is VERY small. Very small.
This isn't by any means every car. Some simply run better than others.
98-00 with LS1 intake <= 01-02 with LS6 intake
98-00 with LS6 intake > 01-02 with LS6 intake
Not really a fair comparison though. Stock against modded.

i agree, stock vs stock LS1 got 50hp more at crank and less weight.
track or street? manual LS1 wins all of them, now manual mustang vs auto LS1 on street can be a driver's race depending on how curvy the road is...

well it is very interestin seeing what people say about that whole situation. i have a 99 SS m6 with a MTI lid, smooth bellow, and SLP loudmouth 2 cat back. the car has NOT been tuned yet and i put down 325rwhp and 338rwtq and the car has 98000 miles on it. i actually encountered a 05 or 06 mustang gt on the high way the other night. and he pulled up and revved at me while i was in 6th gear. so when i just downshifted to 5th he stomped it. we were going about 70mph......so after he pulled away a little (because he took off at the first sound he heard of that LS1) i then downshifted to 3rd and i could hear him at WOT and i reeled him in like i was fishing for bluegill. it was bad. i know he was in it because he had atleast a catback and i could hear it.

If I had to have a Mustang(like someone saying you take the Mustang or the Clap, I would still have to think about it), the '05-'06 body style is the one, but as usual Ford is 4-6 years behind Chevy in performance. We all know who is going to be top dog when the new Camaro comes out. :spank:

However, my choice wouldn't be an 05-06 Mustang, it would be an 03-04 Mach 1 or Cobra. They look much nicer IMO, and they are both faster than the new models.

the ls1 and all chevy is better than any stupid fucking shit ford

ford for cheap pitch

small crank pully

Im in agreeance with Mr. Luos and Wesman so i was wondering if you two could answer for me a burning question.
I ran a kid in town with a 2000 trans am. i talked to him afterwards so i know he has: slp lid
slpd loudmouh 2 exhaust minus headers
gm 4:10 gears and a solid tune
we ran 3 times, 2 from a 40 roll and 1 from a 10 roll. the first he jumped on me by a half a car to a car.
the second i jumped on him the same, then fucked up and downshifted into first. (shitty)
the third run from 10 mph wasnt even right, and here in lies the question.
i pulled on him by 1.5 cars then about 2, maybe 2.5.
i have a lid. we both have m6. hes a good driver
WHY???????????

it comes down to you being a better driver, if he's got the better tires/traction and more muscle because of extra ponnies due to more mods, well, that's what it is... you shift faster... he may have extra weight in the car?
subwoofer, amp, etc// other shit that would be 100-200 lbs? that make a big difference too, do you weight 120 and he weight 200? well that can be a difference. :drunk:
keep in mind that power is not everything, how you use it A4 vs M6, LCA, tq arms, tires/traction,
car/driver weight, suspension and others are some variables.

i dont like saying im the better driver because so many variables come into play when racing. im a cool 175 lbs and he's about 120 and his buddy was with him, probably my weight.

and you are exactly right, power def. isnt everything. so far ive bested a mach 1, a cammed, intaked, and exhausted (ha ha) gt with pizza cutters on the front, an 04 gto m6, and this trans am. the times that ive gotten pulled on i fucked up and downshifted BAD. im not saying im the prodigal son at all, i just drive. they beat me, but i did fuck up shifting. BTW the t56 is bulletproof. the two best races i was in was the trans am and that mach 1. the mach pulled on me the second time from a 40 roll (cant remember) but there again i was in third instead of second. the first race against the mach we were in second and i pulled on him quick. whats going on valy, help me out.

i guess what im asking is, should i be beating a gt that is cammed, intaked, and exhausted?

try to keep the shifting withing the power band shift at hight rpms 5500 and try to stay as close to 4500-5500 as possible. that's where the power is,
in terms of solving your dillema I'm not sure I understand what the issue at hand is? reiterate the issue so I can understand better.

a mustang gt? not a new one with all those mods. an older version it's a driver's race.

well, i tend to short shift alot because im so paranoid that im gonna break something. say i shift around 4000 in one gear but then the next i'll ride up to 5000 or so. im sporatic man. my issue is i figured that i would be getting beaten by my same year car with exhaust and gears, and i did, once. i figured a modded gt would beat me, but that was (im sorry) a joke. i figured that a gto m6 since it has the (supposed) hp increase (2004 vs. 2000 ls1) would walk me. i know there is a weight difference, but.... i am just confused because i would think that even if a driver isnt equal to another if he had 30 extra pound feet and 4:10s he would be able to compensate. School me please

I beat a stock 04gto with my stock '99 ls1, weight 400lbs extra on gto is equal roughly 40rwhp advantage for you...also don't be sporadic in shifting,
you don't wanna shift too soon like 4000rpm because you loose power, shift after 5500 like 5700 every time. and finally whoever has the better reaction in shift and pedals if it's a drivers race.

damn, thats incredible. i need sfc and then exhaust. ive decided to go headers into an x pipe with twin cut outs, a true dual system essentially. i want a h/c package so badly but im pretty novice in my understanding of good matches bc i dont fully understand lift and how lobe seperation comes into play. got any suggestions on the route i should take. BTW, i probably wont be farming any of the work out, as im poor and i like this kind of torture.

there's many options it really takes some time to research this site,
depends on the money you wanna spend, depends on if you want a streetable car or drag strip car mostly... keep searching the engine section threads and suspension... but
I would start modding the free bolts on first, lid, intake manifold, catback, lt headers and Y or X. then build the suspension sfc, tq arm, lca, then move to engine work heads, cam, then work on the tires selection to get good traction...

sweet. yeah i switch between here and ls1tech and several other resources for info. i want a streetable car but wouldnt mind having a rowdy cam if i could. its funny how i ranted in another thread about power being worthless if it cant get to the ground but made no mention of suspension in this one. yes i want to get a torque arm and was going to do suspension first but recently ive been power trippin and the tunnel brace dreams have taken a back seat. thanks alot for the help man, ill get on it. doesnt it seem like we are the only ones talking......kinda spooky.:hi:

i just got fired so im in the same boat basically. i dont know how much you make an hour but you can swing just about anything with a cosigner. youre 16, so i would suggest seeing how much you can afford to put down and talk to your parents. when i say afford, i mean if you only have 5 grand in savings do not put it all down. thats just asking for trouble. the next task is getting an f body with whatever you deem as a reasonable amount of miles and in good shape. just because it has 40k miles doesnt mean those miles were driven easy. camaros and especially trans am are way over priced from dealers and from people who arent really "in" to this kind of thing. they think that just because a 2002 anniversary is worth 20k on ebay then their piece of shit with 125k miles will sell for 15k. dont bother with those people. and also my advice is to get what is in good condition, not go for just an ss or ws6. while they are amazing, they will kill you in price and you cant negotiate it bc some douche will buy it after youre gone. i had that mentality but i quikly realized that i can afford exactly what i want. the result was one short lived z, and now one bone stock rust free, ridiculously clean california car (no underbody rust) that was marine-owned and rarely driven (54k miles) you just have to keep looking everywhere and i mean everywhere. and dont rule out something bc its a longer drive. shit, i drove 4 hours to get mine. find one moderately priced, get financed and build a substantial amount of credit in the process. and dont worry if its stock, look at me. you'll forget about mods for a while at the first turn of the key.

Exactly, I don't know why people always think the A4 is faster in stock form. With equal drivers its slower by a few tenths, and its not even a race if you were to go from a roll. Big difference in trap speeds.
I drove an A4 before I decided to go with a M6.. The auto just didn't seem as fast when starting from a stop.. The M6 just takes off like a bat outta hell..

that's why u put a converter on it... for 400 bucks a stall is the best mod for the money for A4.
then A4 > M6
