I haven't dyno'd since I installed them but I will tell you this; The throttle response is Great and the fuel economy while street racing and at the track is Unreal!! I ran all night on less than a 1/4 tank. Believe that.

They are really expensive. I would have to see some good dyno number's or something of that nature to see if they are worth it.

HEY guys ,I did it! and the biggest gain I notice is when I'm at cruises and pop the hood and tire kickers are like,YEA!Thats about it.I actually powder coated my valve covers black and had the coil brackets ceramic coated then installed the red msd coils and wires. It looks good with the LS6 intake and air lid painted sebring silver with the fender 35th LE SSs on the lid,It really does look good and I know,I know, Pics? WELL guys there ON hold right now, because the wife made the mistake yesterday of making me choose between her or my baby{SS} and now that I sold that forged Ls2 and D1SC, I finally got enough $ to roll and start over fresh with a chick that digs rides period,Right from the get go, that i dont have to try to convert.Somtimes that pussy just blinds you to the truth,ya know? I told my wife the other day, when she was snapping about all the time i spend on these sites and my ride.I looked her straight in her BLACK EYE LOL :brick2: and told her,I know why guys TURN gay LOL And for you lucky basterds who's chicks dig your ride,You get 2 thumbs up from me guys

On a mostly stock car...the stock wires are perfectly fine. :yup:

So little distance to worry about...

Stock wires are fine unless they're really spanked. The MSD coils haven't showed any dyno gain that I've seen on the boards...

stock coils are fine, the msd 8.5mm wires are worth the $60 abby

The stock coils will begin to break down under extreme acceleration. Thou shalt invest in an ignition scope! The MSD coils deliver complete combustion which becomes more and more important the more horsepower the engine creates. This is mainly due to the fact that with more horsepower yields more fuel requirements. Ditch the stock coils, you can sell them on ebay for around $90 and the $90 can go towards a set of MSD coils. You can get the coils brand new in box on ebay for about $470 including shipping. This puts you out about $360 for the MSD coils. You will enjoy better throttle response and way better fuel economy specially during racing! Good Luck in whatever choice you make. Thanks. -Tom.

Tom- I'm not calling you a liar, but I've seen too many 600+rwhp LSx cars (my own included) running stock coils to believe that the coils "break down" under acceleration. The MSD coils may smooth out the idle a little...I'll buy that, but show me some dyno or trap speed evidence that the MSD coils offer better performance.
You can buy a dry nitrous kit for $360 (100rwhp).
You can buy a set of Pacesetter headers for $360 (25rwhp).
You can buy a LS6 intake for...well $375 (10-12rwhp).
I just can't see buying the MSD coils that have yet to be independently verified to show a 1rwhp gain...
If you have proof otherwise, I will gladly eat crow and apologize. B

The only advantage I have heard with the MSD coils is throttle response.

True or not?? I don't know.
I make 531 at the wheels with stock coils.

hey, luos whats up dude, im with ya, i make 430rwhp on stock coils

Look at the new GMHTP... 5 LS1s in the 9s and 10s all with stock coils.

hey dan, where do all the z/28 and ss hang out, do they still do jenros

Yah. I hear that Jenro's is still happening. I've never been, tho... Check out tidewaterracing.com and ask around. I'm usually out stirring up trouble on Saturdays...

Stock coils aint red. And they dont have a cool logo on them. The logos worth, like 25 HP at the wheels right?
Seriously though, the stock coils are good for just about anything most people will throw at them.
The Coil Near Plug ignition system took care of alot of issues that earlier ignition systems had. Primarily coil saturation. And now with coil dwell time being adjustable via tuning software, you can now "jack up" the ignition output too!
The MSDs will/can smooth out the idle a bit, especially with a really big cam. They will also decrease emissions slightly due to the multi strike @ idle.
At some point, the stock coils will be insufficient. But at that point the coils are the least of your worries.
