Hey I have a 1999 Camaro SS with a rear turbo system. The guy that sold it to me said he would get me emissions because the car does not have cats. Needless to say I never got emissions from him and I can't pass without cats. And I'm not going to try and put a new exhaust system and then switch it back to the turbo'ed exhaust system because that's way too much money. I want to drive this car so I need help from you guys! I live in Aurora Colorado and I don't know anybody in the mountains to register the car there. Any "help" or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

In Colorado do they actually read the emissions coming from your exhaust, or do they simply plug in a diagnostic plug into the OBD II connector? If they actually read the emissions from the exhaust, you're going to be in trouble. If they do a visual inspection, you're going to be in trouble. However, if they simply plug into your OBD II connector and scan for codes (namely O2 sensor related codes), you should be alright as long as your check engine light isn't on. Georgia only plugs into the OBD II and scans for codes. I have long tube headers on my car with no cats and am going to get tested for Georgia emissions in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it goes.

In colorado they plug in the odb II connecter, they physically check for cats, and they do emissions from the exhaust. I have a tuner that will clear engine light codes cuz the cat codes come on ocassionally.

step 1
find a very very lienent shop - performance oriented...
step 2
make friends...
step 3
TAKE CARE OF THEM when it comes down to the almighty GREEN

and you should be alright... also ask around, most people with our cars delete all the gay emmissions bullshit so someone should be able to steer you in the right direction

If they plug it into the OBDII port, then it will not show your catalyst efficience! If they do the sniffer then you got something to worry about!

Then your car is not emmission legal to begin with excluding the cats!!!!!!!!!!

No, I said excluding, not including. Obviuosly your car will not pass with cats.

The reason he's reading high hc on co is probably because of the missing cats.

Your best bet is to get some cut-outs installed in your exhaust so that you can bolt in some cats when it comes time for emmissions. If you bring your own cats then it won't be terribly expensive to do at an exhaust shop.

It's nice to have friends in the right places. I've got a buddy out here that works at an emmissions place. When emmissions come around I just give him a jingle and he gives me all the stuff I need.

o2 sims will cover that up!

Dude take it from me I'm a Smog tech here in cali.. Even if you do erase the codes.. you OBDII monitors will be incomplete.. and that will fail you for a smog test.. Everytime you erase the codes the monitors set to incomplete.. And if they check for emissions and you have no cats..= Fail.... you need some cats on their in order to pass the emissions test..
