I took off the boot to see if i saw if anything was logged in there. It almost sounds like somethings is rolling around in there but i cant see anything. When i push in the clutch though, the noise goes away. Does anyone have a clue as to what it could be.

aftermarket shifters do cause a noise that sounds like it is coming from the top of the transmission, i dont know if i would call it a rattle but it almost sounds like something is loose. from what i have heard, this is normal. My car does it too with a B&M shifter.

Just turn up the music

na dont just turn up the music, if they are aftermarket, you gotta check the 4 bolts that hold it to the tranny, they tend to work loose, my SLP short thro did that

I have the exact noise in my 2002 Z, m6. No aftermarket anything on my shifter or tran. It sounds like you can hear/feel the clutch spinning like it's loose or slightly rubbing against something. It does this in neutral but when you push the clutch in it slows then stops. Once in gear and moving you can't hear it.

Original stock clutch w/80k on it, it doesn't slip at all. Time for new clutch anyway?

ill try and tighten the bolts, but from what i remeber they are tight. hopefully that does it. :xfingers:

HOSS93 and Z28SS Your noise sounds like the throw out bearing. If the noise goes away when you push the clutch in. You have to remove the transmission to replace that. Good time time to upgrade your clutch.

yeah i just called the mechanic of mines and he said it would be 300 to replace the throw out bearing, so im going to wait a little while on that. Is my problem serious?

Usually not a serious problem. Just annoying.

yea there's a million things that can rattle in the tranny area, just thought it might have been what it was in my case
