What are the sure ways that I can make sure that a trans am is a true ws6 and not just had a hood and emblems added onto it?

Look on the door sticker , a real WS6 will say WS6 on there. You ll see WS6 and WS9

thats what i thought but on the 98 i was looking at i only saw the ws9 not a ws6 thing. the other thing about it is it was missing the ws6 emblem on the back and had the wrong rims on it and i didnt see the traction control button on it. Can anyone tell me where to locate that on a 98 ws6 if it has one? It has the leather seats, monsoon stereo, and the hood so im not positive if it is or isn't a ws6.

Id say that its not the real thing then, they all had the ws6 on the door sticker. The traction control was a feature on the ws6 so there is some cars without it (like mine) , but id say you got yourself a fully loaded trans am with a ws6 hood

but if it has the CAF = charge to send car to ASC
and
PBT = temporary hood for shipment to ASC
codes than it is one?

go to any GM dealer-give them your VIN, find out what's up with a GM history report-it's free. I think you got a faker....or a make over, but surely if there's no emblem, that's a tell sign.

It's simple...the option code "WS6" will be on the door sticker if its real.

if it does not have the code then it is not a REAL WS6 car. it could have WS9 for the Formula but i doubt that it is a WS6 formula.

We should start a betting pool. I think I'd have to put my money on fake.

Traction Control was an option. So a real WS6 may not have TCS.

I e-mailed you back.
**EDIT** I'll let the pool go on for a while before I tell if the car is real or not. :D
If you guys ever need a VIN run, feel free to e-mail me the VIN & I will run it for you. I had a sticky thread in a few forums on the board before. I'll see if I can get a mod to sticky a thread letting everyone know I can do this for ya again.

I have a WS6 and WS9 on the door sticker. When I bought it the dealer told me that a real WS6 will have a lot of 2's in the VIN. Anybody know if that's true. Mine does have several 2's in the VIN.

I've never heard that before. But I also have never compared a bunch of WS6 VINs. Maybe someone else can confirm if there are a lot of 2's in a legit WS6 VIN.

Yup my collectors edition is definatly a WS-6...Obviously cuz the only collectors editions they made were WS-6s and mine has both WS6 and WS9 in the door panel so i dont know what that means but i know mine is real so i hope that helps!!

Yes WS6 and WS9 should both be on there...not sure about the 2's in the VIN though...I doubt it.

I think the fact that vin's on WS6's have a lot of two's ie: 2G2FV22 which is how a lot start out is just coincidence. NOT a sure fire way to tell. IT'S A FAKE FFS!

Yup it's fake!! There needs to be a WS6 on the door ( it could have both WS6 & WS9 ) and the vin # does have alot of 2's (mine has 6 2's in it)

Well first off... i dont think theres any way to tell from the vin you have a ws-6 car.... because they were just trans ams when they were built in the factory so they got a regular t/a vin. I seriously doubt when they were outsourced to acs that they changed the vin.
Secondly the first 11 digits of the vin on a trans am should be remotley the same due to the vin breakdown system.. the begining 2 means it was built in canada.... the only place its going to vary from car to car are the last 6 serial # digits, the year digit, and possibly the check digit...
Id say your best bet is the door sticker... individual options arent listed by vins

Look for the lower airbox to have a larger gap. Most fakes don't change that part out. They just do the hood, wheels, and badge.

Just look for the RPO codes.
You can see WS6 right there on the door.

:lmao: That's a good one. That dealer looked at the VIN and saw a bunch of 2's and thought to himself, aww yeah, the WS6's have lots of 2's, yea, that sounds good. What a crock of S**T.
On the car in question: I say fake!

If you check out this website, it will prove that to be a misnomer. Essentially all T.A.'s, WS6 or not, start out with 1G2FV22 or 2G2FV22 depending on if they were made in the US or Canada. check it out.

I guess the dealer that sold me my WS6 was full of S**T about having all those 2's in my VIN. Having 10 2's in the VIN made it easy for him to sound like he knew what he was talking about. Oh well, I don't care. I got a good deal on the car anyway.
1G2FV22 or 2G2FV22
That F in there... is that why they call'em F-bodies???

Funny you should say that, that's exactly what the F means. V means formula, trans am see the below website for better break down than the previous one i posted.
