View Full Version : Spoiler on Verts

Man I hate the spoiler that comes with the verts, takes away the mean look. Looks like a damn 6cyl. Is there a way you can convert to a high raised spoiler and how much would it cost? That's the only thing driving me nuts about my vert. Also waiting on Ram Air Hood...

i like my spoiler... switch to a Camaro.
That was one of the reasons i chose SS over WS6, as well as the front headlights.

Personally, I liked the Camaros better than Firebirds........ up through '97. But when the '98s came out, I thought the Camaro front end looked just like the Chrysler LHS, GENERIC. I'll keep my T/A, more satisfying to spank ya by flashing that "V6 spoiler" in your face! :D

You think you got it bad? What do you think others think when they see my SOTL (single on the left) exhaust?? :D

Although the keen-eyed should know we have V8s from seeing the T/A rear valence from the rear. But like I said, racers beware!

Eh i'm not really feeling the look of the high rise on that vert. Something looks off. Oh and are formulas not v8s? v6's arent the only ones with low rise spoilers. who cares what people think especially if they arent able to otherwise tell its a ta especially by its tone. If anything it could come off as a sleeper.

Agreed, the one in the link I posted IS set further back than it would be on the coupe, TOO FAR back IMO. I suspect he had to do this to get the front edges to somewhat line-up w/ the "winglets" on the fenders when the deck lid is closed. If it could be moved forward to match the looks of the wing on the coupes and shaved to blend into the existing winglets, I'd be mighty tempted to buy that new deck lid. I just know it CAN be done, but nobody's done it yet as far as I've seen. There's what, a half-dozen aftermarket hood designs on the market and not ONE Firebird 'vert deck lid w/ the oh-so-desireable coupe wing?? WTF?? :villagers:

I use to hate my vert spoiler as well but when I got my tonneau cover I think the flat smooth lines look sweet together! The camaro may look better from behind but the ws6 makes it look sick from up front so it's just personal preference!

SOMETHING was "off" about that car in the link......... BUT, somehow, you HAVE to be able to get a coupe TA spoiler ON a CONVERTIBLE. It would be the shit! In my opinion, since I have a WS6, that really negates the convertible spoiler look, making it look "better". Then, since my car is white, it helps even MORE to make the spoiler look not so small.

We need to keep this topic alive. Somehow ya should be able to get a coupe spoiler on a 'vert..... without tearing shit up.

well I'm basically just going to repeat the same thing as everyone else. I think it would look awesome to get a WS6 spoiler on the vert. Also I agree I think that guy placed the spoiler way too far back on the car and it seemed like there was a bit of an awkward bend mid way. Still good work just not really my taste. Well if they ever do come out with an aftermarket spoiler for the vert I'll be on the list to get one. That is when I get my convertible :P.

I don't think that it is too far back. The problem is that it is too wide (front to back) which is making it stick too far back. It looks like one of the bigger aftermarket spoiler and not a stock one that was used. But I only looked at the pics for a few seconds so could be very wrong.

Yeah, I know about the unique coupe spoiler SLP offered on the T/A Coupe Hawks, but I don't think they offered any such option on 'verts, and probably not Formula coupes either (which have spoilers very similar to the 'verts).

Sorry, but from that small pic, your 'vert's spoiler looks just like any other Firebird 'vert spoiler. Can you provide larger close-up photos showing where the difference is? 'Cause I'm not seeing it.

And it just so happens you have a yellow ceta, this one isn't yours is it?

Whether it is or isn't I would think the tremendous and flat surface area of any T/A vert would be enough for 145mph, either way it doesn't explain the trailer hitch. That is so redneck.

Never buy anything from Mecham. Their hoods and spoilers are never right and takes LOTS of re-work to get them to fit right.

Basically, find a creative body guy you trust and have him fab something up out of fiberglass. Then post it up and see who else wants one....then sell them to the rest of us. How do you think the custom pieces get made? By people who want to change from stock.

I'm a tall guy and trying to fit anyone but a midget back there is damn near impossible.

So what I would like to do is take the back seat out, save some weight and never have to pile people back there again... BUT I don't want to ugly look of the back without the seats especially with a vert when the top is down... so is there any aftermarket peices that can go in there and cover it up with something a little nicer then the crappy carpet?

I've considered the cover thats posted above but I'm not interested...

well you could always go with some sort of custom sub box or custom storage box, either covered with carpet or leather to match. as for an aftermaket piece, i dont believe there is anything out there other than the tonneau.

Just saw this thread --- had always thought I as the only one with reservations about the factory "picnic table" spoiler/trunk lid on converts.... don't know if anyone brought this up but is it possible to make the tail end of the Trans Am hardtop hatch into a trunk lid using the lower portion of the convert trunk lid, and then add the T/A spoiler...?
