i think they are badass trucks. And supercharged ford V8s show huge gains from simple mods. There is a guy on here ZAPFOOL! who has one. I think he has like 500hp. He is a good person to ask.

mods:
cold air intake
4 pound lower pulley
factory tech valve body
bassani mid pipes w/ high flow cats
bassani bx catback
hotchkis TVS
mail order tune from amazon racing
made 385 rwhp and 499 rwtq on 91 octane
best time of 13.089 @ 104 on street tires...so close
the only mustangs that keep up are the newer GTs, mach ones, cobras (99 and up), a stock to lightly modded ls1 f-body is a close race....., ls1 GTOs are easy...the ls2 gtos are close ....havent had an import or other truck come close and yes that includes an SRT 10
any other questions

oh yeah....just be sure to get a good tune.....remeber a 50 shot acts like a 100 shot on a blown application...highest I would go is a 75 shot...its easier just to swap pullies and add boost

you want an 03/04...the whole spark plug thread issue got fixed....but an 01 and up will have 380 HP and 450 FT/LBS versus the 360 HP and 440 FT/LBS of the 99/00...also you get a 3:73 rear end in an 01 and up versus 3:55 in 99/00

Plus I think the SRT-10 Trucks have a steel block not the aluminum one in the vipers. But dont quote me on it.

I like the lightnings. In my area stockers usually go high 13's low 14's ( humidity sux). There are several in my area running in the 10's but none on the stock block. Everything I've heard from them is that the stock block is good to almost 500 hp anything more you will have rod chucking issues. Plus the ones running in the 11's or faster all have KB's. I love hearing them go down the track all you hear is the blower wine forget the exhaust you aren't hearing anything but that wine. And anytime you hit the pedal boom instant grin factor.

A friend of mine has a black lightning. I thought it was the greatest thing ever when we went for some dinner in it. VERY fast! I know he's done a lot of work to it but I'm not sure what, he'll probably tell me if I ask, but I can tell you now I won't understand most of what he tells me. I would go with black though, I've always loved how the color flows with the curves of most vehicles.

Yea, now I miss the truck so bad I'm gonna have to ask one of the guys on base to take me for a drive. I made my friend PROMISE me that he will never get rid of his. He did say that he wants to do a paint job. What do we think of a dark blue?????
AKIRA
04-24-2007, 07:46 PM
Sadly, I never liked the sound of that kind of charger. Always liked the sound of centrifical's better.
kevyn
04-25-2007, 03:12 AM
I was never a huge fan of the sound either. I used to wonder how the Cobra guys could stand it. It helps knowing it's the sound of 5xx ft lbs of torque at 2500 rpm.
I like centrifugals too but there are not any made ready to be used in an oem application where they need to last over 100k miles. I would prefer a turbo setup if money wasn't an issue.
As far as dark blue goes, Ford made "True Blue" Lightnings for a very brief period. That would look cool.

I kinda like it. He wants a nice color that is going to confuse people and I think that may work. I've seen a lot of different colors for lightnings, even green (and I don't think that lightning ever came out with a green one so I think the guy had it done) so my input was getting harder.

Not me I prefer the roots! I wish there was a way to put a magna charger on my Z28. Lightning vs SS silverado- Lightning all the way. The SS truck was highly disappointing to me. Now the new trailblazer SS different story stock vs stock should be very close for the rwd SS AWD = too much weight probably.

There are plenty of magnacharged f bodies out there. You need to trim a bit on the cowl area but they will fit.

I love these trucks. Just be careful when you start modding. Lotsa popped motors due to the weak rods. I had an 01 with johnny lightning chip, 4lb pulley, cold air, cal tracs. Went 12.55 @108 1.8 60' on stock tires. Was a monster on the street. Really easy to launch. Threw a rod about 5k miles after putting the stuff on. Just don't get greedy with the boost and keep the tune safe. The rods in those trucks remind me of the f body 10 bolt rears. Crap shoot whether it will hold up.
goodluck
