View Full Version : The Leather Upholstry Sucks!

My 00 Z28 has a leather interior. The outer bolster on the driver's seat back is worn through and both seat bottoms have small tears in the perforated leather panels. The other day I tossed my leather briefcase into the passenger seat and the corner tore a 1" hole in the perforated leather on the seat back. This stuff is crap. I've taken the time to put all sorts of lanolin conditioners on them and all I get is more youthful looking hands. The leather is still brittle crap. Are there any stock looking, higher quality leather upholstry kits out there for the Camaro? How do you guys keep up the stock leather in your cars?

Zaino leather cleaner and conditioner. Mine is the original leather and has 71,000 miles on it. No tears, no issues at all. Here are pictures of it.

why would you 'toss' anything onto leather? that's just asking for it...
also, you have to understand, the driver's bolster has always been notorious for rips, scratchies, scrapes and scuff marks...

I LOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE MY LEATHA! hahahahaha Yea, man you've got to be gentle to your car except for the gas pedal. I use armour all cleaner/conditioner and mine is great. It even adds the (real new car smell that comes from the dealership) back to it. Smells real nice:yup:

Thanks for all the care suggestions, but I've owned lots of cars with leather interiors and I don't believe I've ever had one before where the leather both feels and looks so cheap. The seat centers were brittle the day I took delivery from the dealer. Like I said, I've used good quality leather treatments on the seats and they are still breaking down. I'm glad you all like them. I don't.

Yeah, mine has a hole too. Also had it when I bought it, should have had the dealer replaced it.

Dude. No leather seat can take the abuse that you put it through. I have leather seats with 136,000 miles and they look just as good as
Y2KPewterSS's. They were originaly in my 97SS that got totaled. When I bought the car off of the insurance company, there was glass, oil, oil dry, pieces of steel, plastic and about 2" of water in the car soaking the seats. My old man took them out and cleaned them. These are tough seats. No doubt about it. Now they are in my 98 and are better than ever.

The seat bottoms are just as nice. I have always used Meguiar's but I want to try Zaino. I've heard it smells like leather.

If it makes you feel better, I don't like leather either. Not that it was ever cheap feeling, or worn badly,,,because mine has always held up well,,,I just don't like the feel of it,,,cold in the winter and hot in the summer, just overall it's not that comfortable to me. I much rather prefer cloth,,,,problem is,,,it's so hard to find one with cloth in it,,,so I have to play the hand I am delt with unfortunately. Larry.

You must be the luckiest man alive. I rarely ever see a 4th gen with cloth. Wish I could have found my SS convertable with cloth,,but being the type of car it is I couldn't be picky,,,so I live with leather unfortunately. Larry.

dat gummit I love my leather:lmao: It smells good and once it changes temps with your body it just feels better. Looks awesome too. I can't wait to recondition it to get that smell back in it and to give it that freshly cleaned look

easy to clean, just whipe it off and put a little bit of conditioner on it every once in awhile.

Had my z28 since basically new(1,500 miles) and zero issues with the leather. Still looks like new... One thing that you have to watch for... With the low entrance on the f body people tend to sit on the edge slightly and scoot in which wears the bolster out. Isn't the leather quality, is the way car is designed.

You also have to remeber they are bucket seats, you cant just slide out of them...

Yes, definnitly try the Zaino. For years all I used was Meguiar's on my leather. I got the urge to try Zaino, and WOW. Meguiar's doesn't soak into your leather like Zaino. It even smells a month and a half later like leather. Actually longer, cause I put it on about 2 months ago, and its all I smell. Its great stuff! ZAINO FTW!
