problem-a4 shifting hard to first gear when cold

My car starting do this last week when it was 16 degrees outside. Its an a-4 and when I started down the road when it would change into the first gear it would shift hard not smooth. Did it all the way to work but only when shifting the first time from take-off all other gears were smooth. Later that day when I left work and it had warmed up outside it was fine. It didnt do it again until today. I dont know if being cold would have any effect on it but was wondering if anybody else has had this problem before ?

Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear from a start, or downshifting back into 1st letting the trans shift automatically? Any codes? Some codes default the trans to maximum line pressure. Fluid level OK?
