Dougs Headers are some of the best made! Their ceramic coating is by far the best.

I have had good luck with Hookers, my favorite header for my older cars. Shouldn't have any issues hitting the 4 speed if it's all factory. Should be a muncie in there behind a factory 396 car if it's a factory stick car, not a cast iron saginaw.
Sounds like something may have been switched around in which case you could have some fitment problems. Different motor mounts? Aftermarket cylinder heads with raised exhuast ports? Even stuff like that shouldn't give you too many fits. Goodluck....Larry.

she is in bad shape right now, body is straight so no probs, it's just that i messed my paint up. There are big plans for her. I am going on two deployments in a year and a half and once i am back from my second one she will be twin turbo'ed sitting on dse suspension.:flex:

She is sitting because i blew the tranny out. I had a fully built 350, so that killed the th-350. I bought a 700-r4 stage 2 from bow tie overdrives but figured why start driving it again, from that point i started saving money for her future as a pro touring machine. I had installed a polygraphite bushing kit, but when i went to put the springs on it was hard as hell so i just cut them that is why she sits like that.

That was the other guy talking about 60k. I had it appraised at 21,900. That was before she sat for a year and a half and lost her luster.

we are doing a 69 396 now. yes you need to cut the second and 3 rd tube and re route them around the steering box. you also will have a rough time getting around the pitman arm, it hits also.we tried the headman and put a few nice round dings in them to try to get the clearence.no luck.
good luck to you.

Cut and reroute 2 tubes? What in the world is going on with yours?
I have had a pair of BB camaros and never had to cut, weld, dent, reroute anything on headers. I used hookers without issues.
Not to sound mean but did you buy something in a cheap brand? Larry.

Headman ceramic, not cheap

Oh,,,never tried the hedman's, but haven't heard of fitment problems on them either till now,,good to know. Larry.

well this suck you would think that there would be a set the would work, have you tried the 2 peace headers from hooker??

I have used Hooker super comps on all of mine. Either in 1 7/8" tube or 2 " tube diameters depending. Both have fit without so much as a dent.
I have 2 close friends, both have COPO 69 camaros and both run the 2 inch hooker super comp headers to the dismay of the restoration freaks,,,,and they fit perfectly.
I just installed a set of hooker super comps on a 72 chevelle with a 502 and they dropped right in.
I currently run hooker super comps on my 454 chevelle and my 70 formula firebird without any issues. My chevelle even has aftermarket AFR heads with raised exhaust ports, and still fit fine. Although a different car, and the f-bodies are much tighter to work with, but it's never been a problem.
Here are the part numbers I used for my camaros when I had them,
HOK-2205-1 HKR coated $695.00 from summit,,,this is the 2 inch primary pipe which may be a little much for a mild big block.

For something more tame I would go with an 1 7/8 tube part number
HOK-2111-1 HKR coated for $647.69 from summit.

You can get these uncoated which knocks a little off the price. Hope that helps. Larry.

Make sure you have the right frame mounts for a big block. On a bb the left side is a little taller.

Firebirdjones

Ya thats kind of what I was eluding to when I mentioned things may have been changed around giving fitment problems. The small block mounts are also about 1 inch further back,,,so mounting a big block on them makes the rear of the engine a tight fit, and can give you exhaust fitment problems, and also transmission mount problems. So headers that are already a snug fit now don't fit at all,,,so I can see where some people have problems. Larry.
