Hey Everyone your LS1 ASC guy is back!! I had no idea the board crashed and since I haven't been here in a while I thought I would come check it out. Much to my dismay I couldn't log in so now I'm back to a jr member. That sucks. Anyway, send me your vins!!! CE guys, I have almost all #'s. 01 and 02 guys, I have almost all numbers. 00 guys unfortuantely I have 2 months worth of #'s due to shady record keeping by ASC. 99 guys, I have a few more, but for reasons of the same. 98, unfortunately I have nothing. So let me know and I'll be happy to hook you up!

IMPORTANT! - 99 and 00 guys, pls send me the born on date from the driver door sticker along with your vin. TY.

-00BlueTA

Your ASC # is the # that American Specialty Cars (formally American Sunroof company) tagged your car with as it went through their assembly line to become a WS6. They are the company that did the conversion for gm. Most WS6 owners want to know what # they were and when they went through. It's kinda like the SLP guys have SLP #'s. Hope this helps.

I have a book on the history of Firebirds and it gives all models and all options and all breakdowns on production by every option from all years. I got it at Barnes and Noble believe it or not. Lots of good info in it. It even shows old ad pictures. Almost all color pages but it is a paperback. I only looked up the numbers on my particular year. BTW it was just over 1400 Verts made in 1998 for a TA.

Thinking outloud....... I've often wondered if, since GM's "master database" (that to which you can search on your VIN and get an RPO listing via a dealership) apparently contains all the info for all the years, what kind of "program" could be written to search on all Firebird VINs from '98-'02 and get RPO listings for each and every car, then parse that data into the break-downs everyone seems to want (i.e.: how many black '98 WS6 'verts had 6M and traction control for example). That'd be a ton of data, but if it exists somewhere on a computer, seems like some creative programming could glean out all the "good stuff". It might not contain the ASC (or SLP) "conversion numbers", but at least you could create a very detailed option breakdown.

 OK... dumb question- what is an ASC# and why does everyone want to know it?

ASC stands for America Sunroof Company, who performed the WS6 conversions for GM for the '98-'02 WS6s. Each car was assigned an internal conversion # as they went through their shop, just like SLP did for SSs and Firehawks (and '96-'97 WS6s for that matter). However ASC's records were not as well maintained over the years and some info has been lost. The ASC conversion# and date are just two more pieces of trivia about one's car that is nice to have.

Hello, I am a nubie in a way i guess. I use to be one of the originals when I bought my 98 t/a. Now I am a proud owner of a 2001 black t/a ws6 m-6. The bad news is I called :ar: ASC today to find info about my car, and ASC said to call General Motors because they no longer have this info. Now I don't know if you guys knew that or not but this sucks. If anyone has any info about how to verify our ws6 birds are not clones, I would appreciate it.

The RPO decal on your driver's door should have "WS6" listed, otherwise it's not a real WS6. If the decal is missing (possible if the door's been replaced as a result of a wreck), you can run your VIN through the dealership's computer to obtain a complete RPO listing for your car, and THAT should contain the WS6 code.

litle8
01-15-2007, 11:56 AM
OK..called the dealer a little while ago, and they told me it is a ws6 and mentioned all of the options my bird came with ie hurst shifter, ram air package, 17's, 3.42 gears. I also called GM and a very helpful lady said she was gonna "investigate" the VIN completely and give me a call back tommorow. So we'll see. But I do have a real ws6, which is the important thing. The thing that troubles me is that the car sounds quite loud, and I don't remember my 98 ws6 sounding like that! The whole car is stock, believe me I was looking over the car for a couple of hours. Was there an optional exhaust for these cars? I hate to sound like a guy posting old stupid questions, but I have SEARCHED the forum with no luck.

litle8
01-17-2007, 09:21 PM
OK, I got a call from that lady over at GM. She said that it was like pulling teeth. The best information she could come up with was that in 2001 there were 7869 WS6 Trans ams, of those only 796 were convertibles and 7073 were coupes. No further breakdowns were available. Don't know how true that is or not but it's something from someone on the inside. What is it with this information I feel like I'm trying to break the davincci code DAMN!!!!

Here's what I've gleaned over the years for '01s:

2001
Firebird 7191
Firebird Convertible 1149
Formula ?
Trans Am 2596
Trans Am Convertible 396
Trans Am WS6 7073
Trans Am Convertible WS6 796
Total 21436

Not sure why the # of Formulas isn't listed, but I do know WS6 was no longer available on Formulas after '00. So the numbers match those given to you by GM.

Yep, TCS/ASR doesn't change the ratio.

Search for f-bod RPO and you should find a listing of what they all mean.
