Is there a way to remove scratches from the windshield?

I'm fanatical about taking care of my cars and have never had this happen before but my windshield got scratched with a wiper blade. Also, how often do you replace your wiper baldes?

Zaino makes a glass polish product that may work nicely for you depending on how strong the scratches are.

There is an old method of using toothpaste, of all things, to remove scratches in glass. It has to be pure white toothpaste, like the basic cheap store brand stuff. Just rub it into the scratch and see if it comes out, its worth a try.

If that doesn't work, then try the Zaino that Siggy mentioned. Never used it, but considering Zaino products are usually top notch, hopefully it would give you good results.

And for the future, invest in some Bosch Icon wiper blades. They are about $20 a piece, but they are a superior design to the old style metal frame blades in every way. They are a one-piece design, meaning no metal frame, just a plastic/rubber blade with integrated spring tension to conform the the curvature of the windshield. They also have an aerodynamic profile so that they won't jump all over the windshield at higher speeds. I have them on my car, and I've been very happy with them. They also last much longer than regular blades, usually a couple of years no problem, and you'll never have to worry about scratching the windshield again :)

Scratches will not be removed with anything you can get locally. It will have to be professionally done, even then, glass is harder than paint to correct. Some of the products you find do a good job in removing haziness, and real minor surface swirls.

Thanks guys. All of the suggestions seem good. I use zaino products but I don't think I have thier glass cleaner. I need to determine if I can feel the scratches with my fingernail to determine if they are minor or not.

It's amazing what ther dealerships and glass companies know or in this case don't know. Everybody I called said I would have to replace my windhsield becasue their was no way to remove the scratches. I thought they would at least offer some suggestions for me to try.

I had thought about using some very fine grit sand paper because On Dream Garage I saw them do this when demonstrating how to detail your car for a car show but because I didn't know what weight of paper they used, I didn't want to damage the windshield.

Find someone that deals with jewelry or polishing stones and there is a powder that will work on your glass. I used it before when a piece of steel flew up and scuffed one of my cars.
