I have decided to paint my own lid and plastic intake pieces.. my choice of base is cherry red.. I have painted the cherry red on the plastic piece the lid attaches to and have painted the lid itself shiny black. It's in my garage drying.. when the black dries I plan on cutting out a firebird emblem and the word Formula from tape and painting over the whole thing the same color red so that when I peel off (sloooowly) it will show in black and then Ill lacquer over it.. Ill post pics later of how it goes.

You might have some issues with the lid. Near the neck of the lid, there is a part that rubs against the hood so you might have a problem with that. Here's some pics of what I did

my lid never rubbed the hood thankfully =) use a nice clear coat to go over it.. the cheap stuff turns yellow fast under the hood.
